The graph under study shows the fluctuation in the number of people at a London underground station over
the course of a day. It was made by two women, Vanessa Jakeman and Clare McDowell and published by
Cambridge University Press. We do not know when it dates back to.

The ……………… ………..……. of the day is in the morning. There is a ……………… ………..…….
between 06:00 and 08:00, with 400 people using the station at 8 o'clock. After this the numbers
……………… ………..……. to …………………. …………… 200 at 10 o'clock. Between 11 am and 3 pm
the number rises, with a ………..……. of just under 300 people using the station.

In the afternoon, numbers ………..……., with less than 100 using the station at 4 pm. There is then a
………..……. ………..……. to a peak of 380 at 6pm. After 7 pm, numbers fall ………..……., with only a
slight increase again at 8pm, ………..……. ………..……. after 9 pm.

Overall, the graph shows that the station is most crowded in the early morning and early evening periods.

First of all, Australia is located in the south hemisphere, that’s why the seasons are reversed. It is the
smallest continent and is surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans.
As for its system of government it is a bit complicated; Indeed; Australia is a federation, a constitutional
monarchy and a parliamentary democracy, what means, the king Charles III is the Head of sate but the
country is actually governed by a first minister named Scott Morrison.
Australia is divided in 6 states, namely New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria,
and Western Australia and two territories: Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory, who hosts
Australia’s capital city: Canberra. Because of the climate, most of these cities are located on the south -
eastern coast hosting 70% of the population, Sydney being the biggest city of Australia and probably the
most famous thanks to its Opera House. The interior of the country is mostly occupied by a vast desert
called the outback.
As regards the Australian flag it is composed of three elements on a blue background: the Union Jack, the
Commonwealth Star and the Southern Cross. The Union Jack in the upper left corner represents the
history of British settlement. Below the Union Jack is a white Commonwealth, or Federation, star. It has
seven points representing the unity of the six states and the territories of the Commonwealth of Australia.
The Southern Cross is a constellation of five stars that can only be seen from the southern hemisphere and
is a reminder of Australia’s geography.

Australia’s flora and fauna are peculiar too, due to the isolation of Australia from the other continents.
Indeed they are endemic species such as the kangaroos, the koala bears or even the platypus (the only
egg-laying mammal) and they are also world famous landmarks such as Uluru aka Ayer’s Rock or the
Great Barrier Reef.

Another interested topic is Australia’s history. Captain James Cook an English explorer was the first
European to settle in Australia in 1770. In the early nineteen century, the British decided to use this vast
and “unoccupied” territory as a jail, bringing the first white settlers along and killing thousands of
Aborigines, the first inhabitants of Australia.

To conclude, I would say that Australia is an amazing country and I do hope that Scott Morrison’s
government will realize that it is time to preserve its unique diversity.
