In 1325, the Aztecs lived in Tenochtitlan. They

created this beautiful city on an island in Lake Texcoco. They
used natural materials like stone and clay to build huge
pyramids. The Aztec Empire grew very fast and soon the
island was too small for all the people.
But the Aztec builders were very clever. They found a way to
solve the problem. The builders used wood to make rafts or
flat boats that floated on the lake. They used mud and earth
to cover them. The builders gave the rafts to the people who
planted seeds and grew food on them. By 1450, Tenochtitlan
was the biggest city in the world.
