SUBJECT: General Biology 1

TOPIC: Cellular Transport Mechanism LESSON CODE: W6L1
MODALITY: BLENDED WORKSHEET NO:1A

NAME: GWENN C. DALAUTA

SECTION: EINSTEIN

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a concept map about the different transport mechanisms. You can either
come up with your terms or use the ones listed below for your concept map.

PART 1

• plasma membrane • transport mechanisms

phagocytosis
• passive transport
• pinocytosis
• active transport
• receptor-mediated
• diffusion
endocytosis
• facilitated diffusion
• hypotonic
• endocytosis
• hypertonic
•exocytosis
• isotonic
 Bulk transport
PART 2

1. In 2-3 sentences, explain in your own words why is a transport mechanism vital in a cell.

- To transport mechanism is important in a cell because molecules transfer in and out of the cell
for them to function, it is necessary for their cell cycle, and if there is no transport mechanism
the organelles that need resources will not be able to function and do their jobs.

2. Why does active transport require ATP to move substances across the cell, while passive transport
does not?

- Passive transport consumes no energy because, when a substance crosses the plasma
membrane, it moves from an area of high concentration to one of low concentration.

3. Differentiate endocytosis from exocytosis. Cite other examples of organisms that undergo these
processes.

- The difference between endocytosis from exocytosis is that, endocytosis describes the process
cells take in substances from the external environment of the cell by engulfing it while
exocytosis is the opposite of endocytosis where it release substance from the cell and is the
process through which cells transfer materials into the extracellular fluid from within the cell.
The organism that undergoes these processes like to ingest food particles like bacteria or other
protozoans, are amoebas that employ phagocytosis and others such as proteins and
microorganism. Organism that undergoes exocytosis is Animal and plant cells that both
employ exocytosis to continually eliminate waste from the cells.
