If you don't want to increase your risk of cancer or heart disease, there is one thing you should not

eat. It is margarine. The reason why you should not eat margarine is that margarine contains
something called trans fatty acids to keep costs down. According to the Ministry of Agriculture,
Forestry and Fisheries, trans fatty acids have been reported to increase bad cholesterol and decrease
good cholesterol, as well as cause cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, and various other health
problems. In general, high bad cholesterol and low good cholesterol are thought to increase the risk
of atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease. Trans fatty acids may also increase the risk of
dementia. According to Kyushu University, people with high levels of trans fatty acids in their blood
were 50~70% more likely to develop dementia later in life than those with low levels. Trans fatty
acids are said to deform the brain's transmitting nerve function, and eating them for long periods of
time can lead to brain damage. Given these facts, you should not eat margarine if you do not want to
increase your risk of cancer or heart disease.
