UNIT 1
In unit one, the television program named ‘’The News in Focus’ presents three news.
The first news is about a fire broke out in the big International Electronics Factory near Bristol
this morning. The company makes robots and computers and the Director in the company died
in the fire. There was another fire in the same factory only two weeks ago, the police are
investigating.

There is another news that is presented by Claire, it is about thousands of people saw a
strange object in the sky. Some say it was round and other say it was cigar-shaped. Later in the
program, they talk to a schoolboy. He says he saw the object when it landed in a field near his
home. He is sure it was a spaceship from another planet and he saw some people in the
spaceship.

The last news is about Judy Garrett. She is famous pop star and dancer got married this
morning in London. She is forty-three and her husband is twenty-one. They met in a restaurant
only ten days ago and it was love at first sight. The story about Judy Garrett is continued in the
next section. The Reporter interviews Judy Garrett about her husband. Where and when she
met with her husband and what did she say when she met at the first time with her husband.
And then Judy answers all him question clearly. She says that she met with her husband in
London in an Italian restaurant only two weeks ago. She ordered some spaghetti to him in a
restaurant and that’s how it all began.

The Reporter also interviews the schoolboy who saw the strange object in the sky,
shaped flying saucer. The schoolboy’s name is Thomas Farley. He is sure it was a spaceship from
another planet. He says he saw some people in the spaceship. The schoolboy’s name is Thomas.
When he was interviewed, he said that the object was round and flat like a saucer but with a
big round ball in the middle. It was as big as a house. There were some people in the saucer.
One of them was a woman with short dark hair. She was very tall. The other person had square
head with one big round eye in the middle and he had short legs and four hands.
 UNIT 2
Unit two talks about something that people do in their free time. There are four people
who explain about their activities in free time.

The first woman’s hobby is sky-diving. She jumps from an airplane and fall through the
air. She opens her parachute only when she is very close to the ground. She likes it because she
enjoys it and it is fun.

The second man likes music and is very interested in music. He can play the guitar and
the flute. He enjoys all kinds of music but his favorite is folk music. He likes classical music too
but he prefers folk music and he likes to have his own group someday.

The second woman spends her free time with her husband and children. They do a lot of
things together. They go for picnics and long walks and in the summer they go on holiday
together.

The second man loves all kinds of sports but his favorite is tennis. He does not enjoy
watching it but he only enjoys playing it. And when he plays, he wants to win and he hates
losing.

There is a dialog between Clive and Sheila in the next section. Clive is a student at a
Technical Collage in Brighton and Sheila works in the computer department of the collage. It is
evening and they are both going home. Sheila invites Clive to enter in her car. After a few
minutes, Clive invites Sheila to go to concert of Judy Garrett Friday evening but Sheila can’t do it
because she has to babysit. She had promised to her sister to keep her baby because her
sister’s going out with her husband.
 UNIT 6
In this part, theme of this week’s program is ‘’Where do you live and what do you think
of it?’’ There are four places that are talked about.

The first place is London. It is one of the biggest cities in the world. It has population of
over 8 million. Some people like it very much because there is a lot to do there and it is very
interesting. There hundred cinemas, theatre, museum and restaurant there. But other people
don’t like it because there is so much traffic and noise everywhere.

The second place is Brighton. It is a medium-sized town with a population of around

300.000. It is on the coast about 50 miles from London. But the air is a lot cleaner and better.
There are a few factories there and it isn’t very easy to find a good there but there are a lot of
hotels and language school in the town. In summer the town is full of tourists.

The third is Stockport. It is about as big as Brighton. It is in the north of England near
Manchester. In fact, it is almost of suburb of Manchester now. Stockport isn’t a very clean town
because there is a lot of industry there but the people are very friendly.

The last is Killbrae. It is a very small village. Exactly 213 people live there. It is the north
of Scotland and it is very beautiful place and the air is very clean. But there are few jobs in
Killbrae because there is no industry there and there aren’t cinemas or things like that in the
village. The people aren’t very friendly.
 UNIT 7
‘’The News in Focus’’ with Claire Walton presents two news.

The first news is talking about Mr. David young who went out to buy a birthday party for
his wife on Saturday morning. He promised to come back in e few hours but he didn’t do it.
Mrs. Young has been waiting for him and that birthday present ever since. But late last night
the telephone rang in Mrs. Young’s home in south London. For the first time in ten years she
heard her husband’s voice again. Mrs. Young was surprise to hear Mr. Young’s voice. She is full
of questions such as where has Mr. Young been all this time? What happened to him that day
ten years ago? And where was he last night when he phoned his wife?

The second news is about The Weather. For the last five days it has been below zero in
most part of the country. Cold frost and heavy snow have caused terrible problem everywhere.
Everyone is asking the same question ‘’when will it end?’’. Well the weatherman predicts it
won’t last much longer. Better weather is on the way. The temperature will rise above zero
tomorrow and we’ll see the sun again for a few hours. There’ll be more about this too.
