animal farm (pt.1)
One night, snowball and napoleon at Mr. Jones' Manor Farm assemble in a barn to hear old Major,
a pig, describing a dream he had about a world where all animals live free from the tyranny of their
human masters. Old Major dies soon after the meeting, but the animals — inspired by his
philosophy of Animalism — plot a rebellion against Jones. Two pigs, Snowball and Napoleon,
prove themselves important figures and planners of this dangerous enterprise. When Jones
forgets to feed the animals, the revolution occurs, and Jones and his men are chased off the farm.
Manor Farm is renamed Animal Farm, and the Seven Commandments of Animalism are painted
on the barn wall.
Initially, the rebellion is a success: The animals complete the harvest and meet every Sunday to
debate farm policy. The pigs, because of their intelligence, become the supervisors of the farm.
Napoleon, however, proves to be a power-hungry leader who steals the cows' milk and a number
of apples to feed himself and the other pigs. He also enlists the services of Squealer, a pig with
the ability to persuade the other animals that the pigs are always moral and correct in their
decisions.
BOXER HAS FALLEN! (“GUERRIERO”)
frederick had arrived at Animal Farm with a group of men carrying guns. he put sticks of dynamite
on the walls of the windmill and destroyed it.
during the fight many animals were injured, in particular Boxer who is badly cutting his hoof (the
hard part of a horse’s foot). boxer refused to take to take even a day off work. he did not let
anyone see that he was in pain, but then he admitted it to Clover.
so she made a pultice with herb to put on his foot, but he wanted to see the windmill finished
before his retirement ( period of old age, twelve for the horses, when people no longer work).
the winter was cold and there was less food for everyone, but although life was hard, it was more
dignified than in the past. even if the food condition were extremely Boxer worked harder than
ever.
Clover and Benjamin warned him to take care of his health, but Boxer pais no attention.
on a late evening in the summer, Boxer had gone out alone to pull some stones but had not
returned. then two birds came racing into the farm with the news that Boxer has fallen and he is
laying on his side near the windmill and can’t get up.
while the other animals san to call Squealer, Clover and Benjamin remained with Boxer. Squealer
wanted to send Boxer to the hospital at Willingdon, but the animals were a little worried to think of
their sick comrade in the hands of humans.
then the van came and all the animals cried and started to follow the van, Boxer’s face appear at
the small window, he kicking inside the van but then the noise completely stop and the van
disappering down the road. Boxer was never see again.
in the end Napoloen on the following sunday morning made a short speech in Boxer’s honour and
a few days’ time the pigs organised a memorial dinner.

BEGGARS IN LONDON
When Orwell’s French home was robbed, he lost all his money and chose to live in the streets,
trying to understand the poor. He stayed in london where found a large number of beggars.
Beggars are people who are very poor and ask for money, food or clothes but He says that asking
directly for money, food or clothes is a crime, but i sperfectly legal to sell any objects or pretend to
entertain people.
There are many type of beggars, the street musicians, the pavement artist and those who sell
matches, bootlaces and flowers in the street.
Lodging house: are all-mens and all-women houses that cost eight pence for a night and a bed, so
married poeple and families can’t stay all toghether so if they wnat to they have to spend a lot
more money. They basically can’t sleep in te street nut there is one where homeless are allowed
to do it, the Thames Enbankment, there are a few public seats. Is very cold besides the river and
they have no protection, so no blankets and nothing to laying on.
Beggars can just stay in working-class areas, because in the richer areas the police will not allow
everyone to collect money in the streets. As the results, the beggars of London have to beg from
the poor.
So they try to share their profit to help everyone, they also have some habitual place and they
speack with a slang with terms refered to the police.
Infact, Their great enemy is the police force and the parliament with his shameful behaviour
towards its citizens who are forced to lie in the shadow of its building.
They didin’t have heavy dress and didn’t have food, so with cold and wind, the sooner suffer
serious illness, such as tubercolosis wich finally takes them to deaths.

GOAL 1: the 2030 agenda for sustinable development is an action program for people, the planet
and prosperity. It composed by 17 goals, the one we can connected with beggars in London in the
first one.
Fisrt goal says that by 2030 all men and women, in particular the poor and vulnerable, have equal
rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services.
In beggars in London we can see several problems: such as the problem of hunger, very limited
access to services, discrimination and social exclusion and how the police and parliament instead
of helping them marginalize them. but this is not how we need to work in order to achieve this goal
of the agenda 2030

1984

1984 is a dystopian novel that was written by george orwell and published in 1949
The purpose of this book is to warn readers in the West of the dangers of totalitarian government.
and for this reason it can also be defined as a political novel. Orwell portrays the perfect dictatorial
society, the most extreme realization imaginable of a modern-day government with absolute
power.
Another important element is the title of the novel because it was meant to indicate to its readers
in 1949 that the story represented a real possibility for the near future.
If totalitarianism were not opposed, the title suggested, some variation of the world described in
the novel could become a reality in only thirty-five years.
riassunto:
………………………THEMES
Totalitarims
The most important theme of this book is totalitarism (A totalitarian state is one where there is only
one political force legally permitted, all opposition to the state’s policies and actions is illegal and
the party controls every aspect of the country, culturally, economically, socially…)

In Orwell's world the government we can see a perfect example of a dictatorial state because
every aspect of their life is controlled, even love is illegal, and an example we can see is
Winston’s physical surroundings which are designed to inhibit his freedoms. His home there are
various posters with the slogan BIG BROTHERR IS WATCHING YOU and a telescreen, which is
always speaking and that couldn’t be turned off and it also recorded and transmitted.
PROPAGANDA
Aside from totalitarianism a vital theme is PROPAGANDA which is the tool that the party uses for
maintaining control, specifically keeping everyone under a constant frightened state to an extent
where even one rebellious thought about the big brother is a crime.

Control of information
Beginning with the protagonist's job that was to erase and modify history seeks to inhibit thought
itself and alter information at the source. As a result, memories become fuzzy and unreliable, and
citizens become perfectly willing to believe whatever the Party tells them. By controlling the
present, the Party is able to manipulate the past. And in controlling the past, the Party can justify
all of its actions in the present.
( As a matter of fact when Winston and o’brian meet to discuss the brotherhood, they decided to
cheer on the past << what we shall raise our glasses on , the future, the death of big brother? The
past, the past is more important>>)
Brainwashing
The “2 minutes Hate” is a daily ritual in which Party members stop their work routines and gather
in front of a screen in order to participate in an intense expression of hatred against enemies of the
state. The purpose of this routine is to establish in the party members minds a specific and foreign
enemies to focus on and exhaust their anger.
(in the book at the end of the hate we see the “three party slogan” came up to the screen and
everyone began to chant it << WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS
STRENGHT>>
Physical control
In addition to manipulating their minds, the Party also controls the bodies of its subjects. The Party
constantly watches for any sign of disloyalty, to the point that even a tiny facial twitch could lead to
an arrest.
( In the book we see Winston resigned about the fact that he will get caught because the Thought
police would track down even the smallest act of disapproval
<< <<thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be hidden for years. You might avoid it but sooner or
later they would get you>>
and also the “brotherhood” is based on the fact that << you will never learn much more about the
brotherhood than it exist and you belong to it>> so when a “comrade” is arrested he would be
able to confess only a little apart from your actions><
