A. Describe the culture of the people and the political and social systems in the story.
The story of the wedding dance incorporates the existing culture that emphasizes marriage
of the Igorot people was seen as more or less a contract between a man and a woman to produce
children. Men within the tribe are required to have a child that bears the title after them since life
is not worth living without a child as what their rules stated. They are also passionate about
dances that ables to reflect their emotions and expressions towards something. The cultural
practices of Igorot tribes consist of a ritual process in mixture with an offering animal's life
towards the god for they believe in a superior deity whom they call “KABUNIAN”. The village
is headed by what they call “CHIEF” and they are patriarchal in which men most prominent in
owning supremacy and lead in roles of political power, high authority, social opportunity, and
handling of the property. Indeed, the men’s choice continuously surpassing in their tribes other
than, women are fair a supporter to them in all perspectives. Both women and men ought to
sacrifice their love if they can’t produce a child and that’s their culture goes. Love is not
something superior if the standard of society dictates you.

B. Describe family values, gender roles, economic systems in the story.

Culture isn't just only present in our community but rather it happens in our family and if
we based through the story itself, the family values appear how risky it is. If they resisted the rules
there’s a consequence include that’s why sacrifices are the key even if it is difficult to let go of
someone that you desire to be with until the end of time. You must accept the fact that even
though you’re both in love there are continuous obstacles to come up. On the other hand, gender
roles demand more opportunities among men. They are more predominant in terms of authority
including the decision making whether it is for family or the community. They are most likely
portrayed as a head that has control over their tribes while women are dependent on them.
However, their economic system reflects the practices of other tribes that are still existed in this
time such as agriculture, beads design, and so on. Their basic living shows solid characteristics for
both men and women that they respect their tribes even if it gives sorrows to them.

What are the expectations for men in Awiyao’s culture? What about for women?
In Awiyao’s culture, it is expected that the requirement of having a child to prove that

they are real men as it was the demand in their tribe’s unwritten law. If men in their tribe will not

have a child, it means to them that they are weak and forever fruitless. With this, they need to

make sacrifices on doing what’s right for the tribe which is to marry another woman who could

bear a child after them. For women, they are expected to obey and respect their husband's

decisions. Like men, they also need to make sacrifices for what’s right to the tribe which is

respecting the culture wherein if they can’t bear a child, they need to accept divorce and that

their husband needs to marry another woman.

How does your culture influence your decisions? Does it affect your plans for your future?

As a culturally oriented person, I must admit that it influences my decision. It encourages

me to be responsible for my goals and how to perceive things without dragging others though
sometimes, I have some queries regarding our customs at some point, I am thankful for because
it teaches me so many lessons that enable me to survive, I should become independent. My
family practices this kind of way for the preparation of us if we’re having our own family. They
don’t want us to depend on them, what they want is we should grow fruitfully and not to be lazy.
To others, it sounds like being selfish parents but for us, it is their way of inspiring us to go
beyond our dreams. They also, remind us that amidst our victory, we shouldn’t forget to help
others. Through their influence, I am now in the middle of reaching my dreams. Hoping and
praying for my success.

Is it true that love conquers all? When might this be untrue?

To be honest, in between because at some point we can say that love conquers all if it is

genuine and it is the right love we seek to find. But beyond that, we can also say that it is real if

we can forgive those who have done wrong to us, those who have caused us agony as well as

when we can make friends with our rivals. However, this might be untrue because there’s more
to life than love isn’t just the answer to it. If love is enough, social differences would never affair

and that no person would be left with a shattered soul. Life gets in the way and love is rarely

feeble to halt it. Keeping also into the idea that everything will be tight as long as you love is

wrong, we tend to miss the truth that it takes a lot of diligence, understanding, and acceptance to

have a solid relationship.

How important is having children to you? How important is it in your family? What about

in your culture?

Belonging to this modern era where no one dictates you about having a child is somewhat

a relief, unlike others that are forced. Lucky for me, but to be honest having a child within the

family entails the pleasures to do your work thoroughly. It challenges you how to be a role model

and to make an impact on their life at the same time, it tests your tolerance on how to handle the

situation if they didn’t listen. As I have seen in my family too that the thought of having a child

is worth living since it brings them happiness to be determined in all aspects most especially if

they see that their children are reaching their dreams will it is more overwhelming to them

seems, their penances are a legacy that forever rooted to them. However, the essence of a child is

a priceless blessing from God for the reason that not all individuals are talented to carry a child.

Indeed, cherish your children as you revere God.

What is your legacy?

My legacy that will forever remain is being great to others. If the time comes that my
borrowed life will be taken from its proprietor, people will remember me for what I am and what
I have done in this world. As a human, I have many mistakes but I tend to consider others more
than myself. I chose to be a shoulder when my companions needed somebody to lean on, I chose
to be their clown if they cried on. I chose to be a person who easy to go along with because in
this moment wherein cruelty is rampant, everyone needs someone who can be their listener too. I
want people to remember me that I am once their energy who awakened them to focus on the
good side of the universe and start embracing their flaws for it made them strong too.
