Experiment “2”

The relation between saturation pressure and saturation temperature

, testing Clapeyron Equation

Objectives:

1. Finding the saturation temperature based on the pressure

2. Finding the relation between the saturated pressure and saturated temperature
3. Plotting the saturated pressure versus the saturated temperature (P-T) SAT
4. Comparing the experimental values with steam tables data
5. Testing the appliance of Clapeyron equation

Needed Apparatus:

1. Boiler
2. Pressure gage
3. Thermometer

Experiment procedure:

1. Check the level of water in boiler through the water level indicator.
2. Open the fuel valve.
3. Lift the main switch to supply water
4. Operate the burner by pressing the green button beside the control box
5. Watch the boiler pressure (gage pressure) and take the reading of both:
a. Pressure (Saturated)
b. Temperature (Saturated)

Sample of calculations:

1. Patm=1bar = 101.3 * 103 Pa (N/m2)

2. Error in Tsat = [(T2-T1)/T2]*100%
3. Pabs=Pgage+Patm
4. Tsat(steam tables) = f(Pabs) from steam tables
5. Plot Pabs(saturated, y-axis, in bars) vs Tsat (from steam tables) (oC) as shown in figure (1).
6. Find vg & vf at Pabs from the saturated steam tables.
7. hfg(exp)=(dp/dT)sat*[Tsat*(vg-vf)], where (dp/dT)sat is the slope of curve drawn in step 5 at T sat
(experiment value)
8. sfg(exp)= hfg(exp)/Tsat.exp
9. ufg= hfg(exp)-Psat*(vg-vf)
