In a world full of junk food and unhealthy habits- it's hard to be able to split yourself off

from things that can harm you and your health. Likewise, it's hard to be able to step back from

your old habits, but you could improve your current living situation and body if you were to take

the proper steps to approach a healthier lifestyle. Today we will be delving into the ideology of

personal bad habits and why improving ourselves for a healthier lifestyle is so important.

First and foremost, I’d like to present a personal self-assessment of my habits.

Personally, I am not very active in my free time. Though I am constantly moving at work since I

am the only one in the office at the moment, I do end up delivering mail and running errands and

meetings. So I could get 5,000- 10,000 Steps in from a 9-hour shift on a normal day at work. As

for attending classes on campus, I still am a bit active from running to my sessions; but as far as

being active outside of my responsibilities, I don't really do much to better myself as much as id

like to.

As for my eating habits- they are all over the place. I have an Eating disorder; I have

been diagnosed with Anorexia and Bulimia in the past couple of years. I have gone through
2

many hospital visits, and Rehab stays for a while. I am still recovering from the severe weight

loss that almost killed me about two years ago. I suffer from body dysmorphia, a mental health

condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. You

may tell me I look to be at a normal weight, but I will heavily disagree with that statement due to

what I see in the mirror. We see what's not really there, or at least that's what doctors tell me. I

do not eat at work, and when I am on campus, I try not to eat until later in the night or at all. I

can starve for most of the day without it affecting me too much. However, my friend encourages

me to eat. He worries about my health due to my past habits. I will eat in small amounts, and if

I ever felt any discomfort from what I have ingested, it will be purged out within the hour. These

are very unhealthy habits that I am aware of, and I do have hopes and motives for bettering

myself.

In my situation, I have tons of solutions to improve myself for a healthy lifestyle. First

off, a solution to help overcome my mental illnesses is ED therapy. According to the article

Eating Disorder Treatment and Recovery by The Help Guide, “Therapy can help you explore the

issues underlying your eating disorder, improve your self-esteem, and learn healthy ways of

responding to stress and emotional pain. Different therapists have different methods, so it is

important to discuss with them your goals in working towards recovery.”. Secondly, being more

active while improving my Mental health alongside it. The article Exercise and mental health By

the Better Health Channel express the benefits of exercising;” Exercise is important for people

with mental illness – it not only boosts our mood, concentration and alertness but improves our

cardiovascular and overall physical health.”. The benefits will better every part of me to

improve my daily life and health so that I may function adequately. Finally, so set a meal plan
3

for myself. At least by scheduling times, I could eat and manage my calorie intake, so I am

getting all the nutrition and energy I need for my body according to my weight, height, and age.

The importance of sustaining a healthy lifestyle comes down to how healthy you’d like to be and

how much you’d like to better yourself. Only you can motivate yourself to make the right

changes for a happier and healthier life.

I would like to set three goals for myself. To start bettering my eating habits, whether

that may be with planning and/or scheduling or attending therapy once again to develop into why

I have the habits I do. By the end of the year, id like to be at a healthy weight of 125 by either

eating better or exercising. And finally, I’d like to manage a healthy sleep schedule so I am not

as exhausted as I usually am throughout my days.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we completed a self-assessment and went over the reasons to better ones

self and how to better oneself. Overall keeping a healthy lifestyle is essential for a long-term

happy life with devastating health issues at a low if one takes care of themselves properly.

Therefore, it is crucial to create a healthy lifestyle that is built for you.
