CASE STUDY
What are the issues of integrity, ethics, and law posed in the case study?
i. As was mentioned, this instance involves a small town setting, making it challenging
to locate employment where a worker's allegiance is primarily motivated by a lack of
jobs, which negatively impacted the company's reputation and raised questions about
their honesty. Because the company uses by-products, therefore the company's
residue was released into the river. After all, it was deemed harmless, and the
corporation has not engaged in any criminal activity or broken any laws. Still, its
production has impacted the health of the town's citizens, particularly those who live
near the river.
ii. The corporation is harming the community by discharging its products, which has led
to illness in some people who live close to the river. This problem could raise
questions of integrity, ethics, and the law, which was discussed in the case study. If
the company's issue were not resolved, then the company's standing in the
community would suffer, leading to a high staff turnover rate and diminished
profitability. Before vast jobs community members contract the illness brought on by
the release of their products into the river, this issue must be resolved immediately
What options does the company have, and what should it do and why?
i. The company should reduce the number of byproducts entering the river by altering
the manufacturing method, one of its alternatives. The corporation has to investigate
the number of byproducts that are sickening the community and adjust their
manufacturing techniques to create less trash. In addition, the company can hire a
reputable trash management company to handle all of its waste. The business may
focus on its essential tasks without interruption. The business should also take into
account a waste exchange.
ii. Although it has been demonstrated and determined to be harmless, the corporation
has the option of first telling the local authorities in that town that a by-product of
their manufacturing process is freely released into the river. Since the corporation
was responsible for the waste being dumped carelessly into the river, they had a duty
to look into the concerns of the local government and have their list of people who
had been sick due to residue of the company. Then the people submit a complaint of
being ill emerged. First and foremost, a firm should have established a location
where its garbage will dispose of appropriately before starting to operate.
