CINEMA CLUB

Part 1: You want to join a cinema club. Fill in the form. Use 1 – 5 words.
1. Where are you from? – I am from Vietnam
2. What’s the weather like today? – It is hot and dry
3. What do you do in your free time? – I listen to music
4. First language? – Vietnamese is my mother tongue.
5. Who do you usually go to the movies with? – I go to the movies with my friends
Part 2: You are a new member of a cinema club. Fill in the form. Write in sentences.
Use 20 – 30 words.
When and how often do you watch films?
- I am quite a busy bee during weekdays since I go to work from Monday to
Saturday. Sunday is the day that I am free. As a result, I always spend my day off
doing my favorite things including watching films.
Part 3: You are a member of a cinema club. You are talking to three other members in
the cinema club chat room. Talk to them using sentences. Use 30 – 40 words.
A: I like to sit near the screen when I go to the cinema? I never drink or eat anything
during the film. What about you?
- When I go to the cinema, I prefer to sit on lines from F to H since I believe these
places are perfect enough for me to look at the screen. Besides, drinking coke and
eating popcorn are the two things that cannot be indispensable during the film.
B: I don’t like watching old back-and-white. They are boring. I prefer modern films,
which do you prefer, and why?
- I prefer modern films because they have good qualities of sounds and visuals.
However, it does not mean the old films are boring. From my perspective, both old
and modern films have their own values and each film has the different contenst
and messages that it expects to express to the audiences.
C: Some people say we don’t need cinemas anymore. We can watch everything on TV or
online at home? What do you think about this?
- I totally disagree with this idea. There are so many differences between watching
films at the theatre and watching films at home. For instance, if the audiences
would like to see the big screen with the perfect sounds, they come to the cinema.
In the other hand, if the audiences would like to watch films in a private and quiet
place, they watch films at home. As the result, both cinemas and TV are necessary
for each person’s need.

Part 4:
Dear member,a
As you know our weekly film shows are very popular. However, we have had a
number of complaints about people using their mobile phones during the film. We
have started asking people to turn off their phones before the film starts but this hasn’t
solved the problem. We are thinking of banning mobile phones from our cinema in
the future and would be interested to hear your view on this. Do you have any other
suggestions?
1. Write an email to your friend who is also a member of the club. Tell your
friend what suggestions you will make and why? Write about 50 words.
Recommended time: 10 minutes.
Dear Jade,
How are you these days? Long time no see. I hope this mail will help me find you
well. Have you heard about the cinema club? They are considering about not allowing
mobile phones during the film. I was in a black mood when I heard the news since I
neither expect the audiences to use their phones. What do you think about this issue?
Huynh Khanh Nhu.

2. Write an email to the manager of the club. Write about your ideas and what
you think about the situation. Write 120 – 150 words. Recommended time: 20
minutes.

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Huynh Khanh Nhu. I have been a member of the cinema club for 8
months. I am writing to express my feelings and give my suggestions about the
notification that I have received from our club.
To be honest, I was down in the dumps when I heard the news. I believe that it is not
good to use phone during the films because it shows that some audiences do not pay
their attention to the film.
I think we should have some solutions for this issue. Although I am quite sad because
of the news, I think the rule of banning mobile phones is quite strict and it can be
annoying for many people. While watching a movie, there may be some emergencies
that require them to use their phones. Instead, cinema staff should politely ask guests
to turn off their phones. If there is an emergency, staff can gently ask them to go out
to use the phone. It would be better if we could apply the code of conduct in the
cinema and if they intentionally break it, we should ban them from watching movies
in our cinema for 1 week. Besides, the club should post the information about this
new rule so that everyone can follow. I hope this proposals will be helpful for our
club to solve the problem.
I am looking forward to receiving your response.
Best regards,
Huynh Khanh Nhu.
