GUIDELINES FOR BS ARCHITECTURE OUTLINE DEFENSE

PROJECT-BASED (DESIGN PROPOSAL)

1. Establish importance and objectives of the study


✓ re-align, if necessary, depending on title defense feedback
SITE SELECTION
2. Establish site criteria:
✓ lot area (required by the proposal)
✓ zoning and land use (ownership, type of use, etc.)
✓ accessibility (distance, access roads, transpo, etc.)
✓ utilities (water, electricity, communications, waste
✓ disposal, etc.)
✓ physical characteristics (existing condition & features,
✓ contour, climate, etc.)
✓ geologic factors (land suitability, structural)
✓ proximity to support & other facilties (similar facilities with that of the proposal, hospital,
schools, police stations, fire stations, centers, etc.)
✓ safety and security (social, environmental, etc.)
✓ expandability & visibility
others deemed necessary
3. Assign percentage for each criterion
depending on its importance
4. Perform site selection
✓ rate or grade each site based on the established criteria & justify ratings
✓ site with highest rating/grade shall be considered as the most efficient site for the
proposal
5. Establish site profile
✓ total land area
✓ type of area (urban, rural)
✓ type of use (agricultural, residential, commercial, etc.)
✓ ownership (government, private, etc.)
✓ distance from facilities
✓ utilities present in the site
✓ soil classification
✓ transportation
others deemed necessary
6. Gather supporting documents
✓ maps (showing distances from support & other facilities, flood, seismic, contour, etc.)

✓ documents (zoning, land use, ownership, function, technical description, lot area, etc.)

✓ government programs &/or agenda (10-point agenda, medium term goals, etc.)
✓ related & applicable laws and codes (restrictions, design standards, etc.)
✓ pictures of site & interview results
others deemed necessary
