Analyse the notion that multi- agency policing is ration in addressing todays

policing problems.
Multi agency in policing is the one of the community policing initiatives. The police as an
organization does not have all the required expertise and resources to fight against crime, hence
the need for external partnership.
Community policing was defined by Albert R Robert (2008) in his book Crime and Justice as
“Partnership with various components of the community to engage their efforts in dealing
with crime”. He further described it as `Use of this partnership to develop joint crime prevention
strategies.
MULTI AGENCY COOPERATION IN POLICING
This is a strategy designed by the police in order to curb crime. The strategy is an
answer to police problems associated with depleted material resources and expert knowledge.
The idea is simply to join engage other material external agencies in a rendezvous to fight crime.
Implementations the police nowadays operate in a proactive style as opposed to the reactive
where they wait for crimes to be perpetrated and then attend to serious of crime in Multi agency
cooperation in policing emphasis put an intelligence led type of policing where pertain to
the modus operandi is gathered first.
BEFORE REACTING THE PROBLEM
Police as organization, do not have all the required expertise to tackle every problem
associated with crime, hence the engagement of other stakeholders. Having been this
police has to build partnership with identified agencies with specification on a particular
problem.
PURPOSE OF MULT AGENCY COOPERATION
Hope and Shaw (1988) in their books entitled Support for Neighbour hood Watch on page 13
says “In as much as crime with local communities is likely to be sustained by a broad
range factors – in housing, education, recreation etc, the agencies and organizations also are in
some way responsible for, or capable of affecting those factors, ought to join in common cause
so that they do not work at cross purposes.
