Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition (IHMCT & AN) was formerly
known as Food Craft Institute, Jaipur which (was started in 1976) and upgraded to a full fledged IHMCT
& AN on 1st April 1989. The Institute is sponsored by both, the Governments of India and Rajasthan. At
present IHM Jaipur is one of the 21 Central IHMs in the country and in total there are 73 Institutes
categorised as Central IHM, State IHM, Private IHMs & PSU at the All India Level imparting Hotel
Management and Catering education affiliated to The National Council for Hotel management &
Catering Technology, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
The aim of this Institute is:
? To provide skilled manpower to the hotels and other Hospitality Organizations.
? To encourage local talent to take up Hospitality Profession at the skilled and entry level.
? By providing skilled and trained manpower to the industry, this helps in creating employment
opportunities to the students passing out from this Institute.
? Through creation of employment opportunities the economy of the state/ country gets better.

INTRODUCTION TO HOTEL INDUSTRY


For a professional, Hotel Management is a very lucrative segment, capable of offering a long growth
oriented career. The Hotel sector itself requires a large number of well trained professionals with excellent
skills in Housekeeping, Food & Beverage Service and Production, Marketing, Accounting, Security, Public
relations and so on. In this field one can find ample job opportunities in Hotels, Hospitals, Air Lines,
Customer Relations, Sales, Marketing and Management. A list of career options available which the

In this fast changing world, the hospitality industry has becomes the ideals place for those who have an
inborn talent to mingle with people, work with them and serve them. The young entrants have to come with

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Hospitality and Tourism Industry is the fastest growing, job creating industry in the world.
With annual revenue approaching $5 Trillion, over 200 million people are directly or indirectly
employed in Tourism and Hospitality segments. According to World Tourism Organization the
industry creates a new job every 10 minutes and in every 9 jobs created, 1 would be in Tourism &
Hospitality Segment.

In India also, the industry is on a high roll. World Tourism Organization has identified India as one
of the largest tourist growth centers in the coming decade. India is also the largest employment
generation country, next only to China. The Indian Hotel market is already generating serious
interest from international operators and hotel developers after key events like the
Commonwealth Games in 2010, Cricket World Cup in 2011 and more recent sporting events which
India hosted are IPL, Premier Badminton League, Asian Archery to name a few, the demand for
trained and skilled manpower in the field of hospitality and Tourism has nearly doubled.

Hospitality industry contributes the major portion of Tourism industry. Where ever people go they
need two things FOOD and LODGING and the Hospitality Industry caters to these two basic
needs. The Hospitality Industry is growing at a very rapid pace and the global scenario is changing.
In this scenario, the demand for high caliber, well- educated and trained professionals will far
outstrip the supply.

The industry needs trained and efficient workforce for the effective running of their organizations.
The employment opportunity in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry is vast. Properly trained
and skilled people have a wide range of opportunity to work in the sector like hotels, motels,
restaurants, hospitals, railways, airlines, ships, industrial houses, fast food outlets, company
centers, and work as faculty in the various Hotel Management Institutes and many more. To work
in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry team work is essential, one has to be physically fit,
disciplined, polite, smart, well groomed, punctual, and have a good understanding of hygiene and

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Admission into any of the five diploma courses will be made strictly according to merits drawn on the basis
of aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying examination(s) as mentioned against the courses and
counselingprocedure held in the institute on declared dates.

Reservation in Admission:

Scheduled caste: 15% Physically handicapped: 1%


Scheduled Tribe: 7.5% Other Backward Classes: 27%

Economically weaker sections (EWS): 5%

a. Candidates who have passed examinations other than those mentioned above should submit
equivalent certificate from a recognized board/university
b. Incomplete applications will not be considered, candidates as such are advised to ensure that
their applications are complete in all respects.
c. All supporting documents which are self-attested need to be attached.

HOW TO APPLY
“Application forms for admission” duly filled in all respects should reach the office of the institute in the
prescribed form by the specific date as notified in the advertisement. Each application should be
accompanied by self attested copies of the following:

a) Pass Certificate of 10th Class in which Date of Birth is mentioned

b) A certificate of good health (the form of certificate is attached at the end of this book) from a
qualified doctor( Original)

c) Certificate in support of belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, OBC and EWS
(wherever applicable).

d) Pass Certificate of qualifying exam

e) Mark sheet of qualifying examination.

f) Two copies of passport size photographs

NOTE: (i) Incomplete application forms will be rejected.

(ii) Application received after due date will not be accepted.

GENERAL INFORMATION
I. Location:
Institute is situated 3 k.m. away from Jaipur Railway Station, 12 k.m. away from Airport and 4 k.m.
away from the main market.

ii. Payment of Fees:


Fees is payable in two terms. The 1st term fee is paid at the time of Admission and the 2nd term fee is
payable in December/January of the said academic year. Fee notice will be put on the student's
Notice Board and also on the institute's website. Please note that the late fee is applicable after the
period without late fee lapses which is stated in the fee notice- the late fee applicable is Rs 300/- for a
period of 1 week, followed by late fee of Rs 500/- for 2nd week failing which Re-admission free of Rs
1000/- will be levied. All fees one paid is not refundable except caution money.

iii. Uniform:
Students will be required to purchase/procure the specified uniform on payment of uniform fee
which will be intimated at the time of Admission. Students will not be permitted into the lab without
specific protective clothing as required for the practical. They are also required to wear College
Uniform when not in practicals which includes black trouser, white shirt and a college tie with black

iv. Training Food:


Training Food cooked by the students in Quantity Food Kitchen would be served at the dining hall
to all the students who do not have food production/cookery practical for that day.

v. Hostel Facility:
Limited number seats are available for diploma students, both boys and girls. Accommodation is on
first come first serve basis, which will be given only if the payment is done for the complete year.

vi. Medium of Instruction:


The medium of instruction for full time courses in English and same is compulsory in the
examination

vii. Training and Placement Cell:


There is a training and placement cell at the Institute, which makes efforts to assist students in
securing suitable employment in various catering establishments in the private and public sectors
in the state and outside Rajasthan. Some reputed organizations conduct campus Interviews at the
Institute itself. The Institute has good liaison with leading Hotels and Catering establishments both
for summer placement and employment.

viii. Refund of Fees:


50% of fees paid during admission shall be refunded if the student withdraws from the said course
within one month from date of admission. No request will be entertained after such date. There will
be no refund of Hostel fee paid if leaving hostel midway or removed from hostel except caution
money.

ix. Mobile Phone:
Mobile phones are not permitted to be used within the college campus other than college cafeteria.
Any student found using phone in the college campus, the same would be confiscated and
disciplinary action will be taken against the erring student.

x. Holidays:
The Institute observes all gazette and local holidays declared by the Government of India and
Collector of Jaipur. Any other holidays in addition would be announced by putting a notice on the
Notice Board.

xi. Correspondence:
The Institute cannot be held responsible for non-receipt of the application form, selection memos
and other correspondence. All documents pertaining to admission of selected candidates will be sent
by ordinary post only. However all correspondence to the Institute should be done vie SPEED
POST, addressed to the Principal of the Institute at the following address:

FOOD PRODUCTION – Food production, as the name suggests, is about preparation of food and has
three sections:
Bakery, which is making of bread and cakes,
Confectionary items like candies; chocolates, cold desserts
Indian Cuisine – from different regions of the country as well as some popular dishes prepared in catering
operations,
Continental, Chinese & Cold Kitchen preparations where salads and delicatessen (cold meat cuts) are

FRONT OFFICE- The front office or reception is an area where visitors arrive and have their first
interaction with the hotel staff. Front office staff will deal with whatever question the visitors has, and put
them in contact with a relevant person/department. The department operation includes Reception,
Reservation, Bell desk, concierge, night auditing, and cashier. The course offered by the institute for entry

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE INSTITUTE
1. Student Identity Cards: Identity cards are issued to all full-time students and must be
carried at all times and present it for inspection when demanded. No student will be allowed
to attend the class, practical, etc. unless he/she has his/her identity card with him.
2. Disciplinary Action: Students will be accountable for any inappropriate behaviour or
unlawful, activity, on or off campus. Gambling in any form is prohibited in or around the
Institute campus. Possessing or using illegal drugs, narcotics or drug paraphernalia is
absolutely forbidden. Possessing or using alcoholic beverage on Institute property is strictly
prohibited. If student's action violates Institute's rules and regulations, he/she may be
subject to disciplinary action including fines or suspension and even justification from the
Institute.
3. Student must not attend classes other than their own without the permission of the lecturers
concerned.
4. As a policy of the institute, we discourage the students to take part in active politics.
5. No society shall be formed in the Institute and no person invited to address a Meeting
without the prior permission of the Principal. Students shall do nothing either inside or
outside the college campus that may in any way interfere with its orderly working and
discipline.
6. Student must attend all theory classes, practical and tutorials of the Institute and must visit
catering establishments and take part in indoor and outdoor catering parties arranged by
the Institute. Students must not absent themselves for any other Institutional, curricular
and extracurricular activities without permission; it may lead to shortage of attendance.
Each student is required to maintain a minimum of 75% attendance, failing which he or she
will not be permitted to appear for the final examination. 10% attendance may be condoned
on medical grounds and a Medical certificate from a qualified doctor to be submitted to the
principal.
7. Conduct of the student in their class as well as on the premises of the Institute shall be such
that it will not cause any disturbance to the fellow students or to other classes. The Principal
may expel a student whose conduct is found to be unsatisfactory and the fees will be
forfeited.
8. Students must not loiter around in the Institute premises while the classes are at going on,
they should be seated in their predetermined classes.
9. Smoking and drinking is strictly prohibited in all parts of Institute.
10. No student shall communicate any information to or write about matters dealing with the
Institute's administration to the press.
11. Students are expected to take proper care of the Institute's property and ought to help in
keeping the premises neat and tidy. Any damage done property of the institute by
disfiguring walls, door fittings, or breaking furniture, etc. is a breach of discipline and will
be duly punished/fined.

12. If for any reason, the continuance of a student in the Institute in the opinion of the Principal,
is found to be detrimental to the best interests of the Institute, without explanation for his
decision and assigning any reason, the student may be suspended, removed from the college
and even rusticated.
13. Absence without leave is considered a breach of discipline and leave without permission is
liable to fine. No leave will be granted without previous written application except in case of
illness or emergency. Prior permission must be obtained for all other leaves from the
Principal/Lecturer concerned who will consider the application on individual merit.
14. Student should make use of the Institute's Library during library hours or free hours.
15. Any property of the Institute damaged due to negligence by a student or students will have to
be replaced or paid for by them.
16. Matters not covered by existing rules will rest at the absolute discretion of the Principal.
17. Non-compliance with the rules of Institute can also be dealt with by means of suitable fines
and disciplinary action.
18. Name of the students continuously absenting themselves for more than six days without
permission/Information shall be struck off from the Institute rolls.
19. Educational tours arranged by the Institute are compulsory for all students.
20. Change of address: Any change in address of the residential address or correspondence
address should be given immediately to the Principal in writing with valid proof.
21. Parking: Parking of vehicles should be done within the college premises only at designated
area and Institute will not be responsible for any loss of vehicles.
22. Personal property: College authorities will not accept any responsibility for damage to or
loss of clothing and any other articles considered as personal property of the student within
college premises.
23. Working on part time jobs are permissible after class hours or weekends. Prior permission
has to be taken form Principal with recommendation from the placement staff.
24. Appearing in any other examination except held by the Institute will also disqualify the
student from appearing in the Annual Examination, during the course of study at the
Institute.
25. Ragging is strictly prohibited within and outside the Institute's campus. Any student
indulging in ragging will be rusticated without any hearing. The case will be treated as per
laws established by the Government of India.

PARYATAN PARV
Paryatan Parv by Ministry Of Tourism is celebrated with great enthusiasm at IHM Jaipur
under the noble leadership of Principle, IHM Jaipur along with the team efforts of students,
faculties and staff members. As a part of celebration series of events & activities are held
with an objective of sensitizing people about swacchta, drawing focus of people on the
benefits of sustainable tourism & showcasing the cultural diversity of the country.

EK BHARAT SHRESHTH BHARAT


Ek Bharat Shresht Bharat has been proposed by the ministry of tourism which allows
different institutions at different locations to exchange their cultural values. To
CELEBRATE the Unity in Diversity of our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the
fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of our Country; To
PROMOTE the spirit of national integration through a deep and structured engagement
between all Indian States and Union Territories through a year-long planned engagement
between States; To SHOWCASE the rich heritage and culture, customs and traditions of
either State for enabling people to understand and appreciate the diversity that is India,
thus fostering a sense of common identity, TO ESTABLISH long-term engagements and,
TO CREATE an environment which promotes learning between States by sharing best
practices and experiences.

INDEPENDENCE DAY
Institute of Hotel Management, Jaipur organizes an event in the celebration of our
Independence Day. The Beginning of the event is marked by the Flag Hoisting done by the
Respected Principal Sir on the college terrace. Post breakfast, all the students are requested
to arrive and enjoy the sitting in the A.V. room. The program begins with the Lamp Lighting
Ceremony and the beginning of the event is followed by addresses & patriotic performances
by degree & diploma students.

REPUBLIC DAY
Institute of Hotel Management, Jaipur also organizes an event in the celebration of our
Republic Day. The beginning is marked just like Independence Day by Flag Hoisting,
followed by patriotic cultural performances by the degree & diploma students.

UMANG (A Week Long Fest)
Umang- which means Hope, is the annual Fest celebrated at IHM Jaipur near about the 1st
week of March. Umang signifies unity and positive competitiveness. The participation
includes four houses: Titans, Spartans, Imperials, Royals, However the diploma students
represent themselves in the color of grey as Diploma itself. Various sports & cultural events
are carried out such as cricket, races, dances, singing, etc. There is also an opportunity for
food stall for food production candidates which is settled corresponding to these sports
events.

INDUCTION PROGRAM
Program is an initiative to groom the overall personality of the students. The Induction
Program for the new joiners is held on the 1st day; before the commencement of new
session. It starts with Introduction and career prospects of the hotel industry and kind piece
of advice from all the Chief Guests. Followed by principal's speech in which he expresses his
warm welcome to all new comers, and give assurance of support and correct guidance in the
following years. The budding hoteliers are given a show around of the college campus and
are also briefed upon the rules and regulations of the institution in order to maintain the
discipline and decorum of the institution.

FOOD FESTIVALS

Food Festivals of different cuisines & cultures are also organized in IHM Jaipur. In 2019 we
organized a Bengali Food Festival where the college was decorated with the theme of
Bengal. The food was prepared from Bengali Cuisine only. The cultural performances
presented by degree & diploma students were also dedicated to Bengal. Many dignitaries
from the industry came and graced this occasion. As per the instructions from the Ministry
of Tourism, Govt. of India, IHM Jaipur will continue organizing events like this in future.

GUEST LECTURES

Proper guidance and consultation comes with proper experience, thus it is important to
seek the right and the wrong way out from people who have gained that proper experience
so far.
At IHM Jaipur it is insured that the students have interactive sessions with alumni s' and
other Guest of honor who are at a reputed level in this industry.
Personality development sessions are also conducted in order to boost the confidence level
among the students as well as to make them aware of the level of competition in hospitality
industry.

ABOUT TOURISM

Tourism is the root to hospitality industry as it offers a lot of opportunities and growth. It is
not only associated with traveling but also with guest handling, serving with sophistication,
creating elegant dishes. Thus, all aspects no matter front office, food and beverage or food
production; all contribute at a mass level in the Tourism industry and if not hospitality
industry one can also consider tourism as a career opportunity.

ANTI-RAGGING

IHM Jaipur is totally a ragging free institute. Please do not hesitate to report to any member
of faculty or the anti-ragging committee if the fresher is ragged by their seniors.Any senior
student found indulging in Ragging is liable for Rustication and fine as per the Anti-
Ragging Act of Supreme Court and undertaking given by each of the students and their
parents. You can also contact the Union HRD Ministry on a toll free number and e-mail if
the College does not take necessary action.You can also report directly to the Principal with
or without identifying yourself.

TRAINING AND PLACEMENT

Hospitality industry is marked by great excellence and professionalism. And it is


essential for every budding hotelier to adapt into the sophisticated personality in
order to excel in this field. However one cannot learn this from books and
internet and hence there is concept of Industrial training.
Industrial training is a part of every course in every IHM. After completing the 1
year in college every candidate must undergo a training period for 6 months.
The training is carried out in the respective hotel for which the student is
selected through an interview process. The hotel may be anywhere in India and
not necessarily in the same city as the college, however if the student still wants to
continue from the same city and any specific hotel then there is an option for
walk-in interviews.

Industrial training is an integral part and must be practiced with seriousness as


this is the initial stage of the career, whatever practical knowledge gained and
technical knowledge learned and practiced shall prove to be helpful throughout
the career path ahead.

The students shall return to the college after 6 months for campus placements or
can even appear for walk-in placements for the hotel of their choice in any part
of the country.

The certificate of successful completion of Diploma shall be issued after the


completion of training period itself.

The students get placement in many renowned hotels like Taj, Oberoi's, ITC,
Lalit, Radisson, Mariott, Ramada, Holiday In, Crowne Plaza, Etc.
