1. Do you agree with Rizal’s presentation of our pre-colonial history? Why or why
not?

- Yes, I agree with Rizal's presentation of our pre-colonial history. Rizal wanted to teach the
Filipino people about their pre-Spanish history by using Morga's Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas
(Events of the Philippine Islands) book. The reason is Rizal illustrated pre-colonial history
through his writings. He emphasized the cultural differences between the Spanish and
Filipino people. He was implying that the history of the Filipino people before the advent of
the Spaniards was already rich and colourful. He said that the introduction of Spanish
culture into the Philippines had not resulted in a rise in living standards or an improvement
in the lives of the local populace. Rizal wanted to teach the Filipino people about their pre-
Spanish history by using Morga's Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas (Events of the Philippine
Islands) book. He also demonstrated their true culture and identity in the face of growing
nationalism.

2. How did Rizal envision the pre-colonial Filipinos? Why?

- Rizal stated that the Filipinos being indolent and that the degradation of the Filipino was
because of the corrupt Spanish colonial, and then claims the Antonio De Morga’s Sucesos de
las Islas Filipinas was historically not correct and was written and made just to slander the
pre-colonial Filipinos. Rizal wanted to imply that even before Spanish Colonial, Philippines
was already rich and abundant of resources. Rizal wanted to recover the pre-colonial past
that was erased from the memory of Filipinos by colonization.
