Kasaragod District - FACTS

A district with rare and different beauty, Kasaragod is poised for


growth in the area of tourism. Kasaragod , known as the land of Gods, forts,
rivers, hills and beautiful beaches is the most enchanting district of Kerala.

Kasargod is a land with resonant past, myths and legends. The fort at Bekal is
the largest and best preserved in the State. Kasargod is acquiring
prominence in the tourist map of India as 'The land of Yakshagana and
Theyyam'. Kasaragod is also the cradle of many colourful art forms and folk
music of Kerala. Kasaragod displays a variety of patterns and styles in temple
architecture like Madhur Mahaganapathy Temple, Malik Deenar the Great
Juma Masjid etc which speaks volumes about the rich cultural heritage of the

region.The rich pageant of 'Theyvam's impersonated, rises Kasaragod into a


land of fabulous fantasies.

KASARAGOD DISTRICT-HISTORY

Lying at the northern tip of Kerala bounded by the Western ghats in the
east and Arabian sea in the west; twelve rivers flowing across its terrain,
Kasaragod is an enchanting beauty of Nature's creations.

There are different views on the derivation of the name "KASARAGOD". One
view is that it is the combination of two Sanskrit words kaasaara (which
means lake or pond] and kroda (which means a place where treasure is kept].
Another view is that it is the place where Kaasaraka trees (Strychnos nux
vomica or Kaanjiram or Kaaraskara] are in abundance. Bothe views are
relavant as there are large number of rivers, lakes and ponds in the coastal
belt of the district besides thick flora consisting of innumerable varieties of
trees, shribs etc. particularly plentitude of Kaasaraka trees.

Many Arab travellers, who came to Kerala between 9th and 14th centuries
A.D., visited Kasargod as it was then an important trade centre. They called
this area Harkwillia. Mr.Barbose, the Portuguese traveller,who visited
Kumbla near Kasargod in 1514, had recorded that rice was exported to Male
Island whence coir was imported. Dr.Fracis Buccanan, who was the family
doctor of Lord Wellesly, visited Kasargod in 1800. In his travelogue, he has
included information on the political and communal set-up in places like
Athiparamba, Kavvai, Nileshwar, Bekkal, Chandragiri and Manjeshwar.

The district is marked off from the adjoining areas outside the State by the
Western Ghats which run parallel to the sea and constitute an almost
continuous mountain wall on the eastern side. The Ghats dominate the
topography. The coastline is fringed with low cliffs alternating with stretches
of sand. A few miles to the interior, the scene changes and the sand level rises
towards the barrier of the Ghats and transforms into low red laterite hills
interspersed with paddy fields and coconut gardens.

The landscape is dominated by the characteristic coconut palms


accompanying rolling hills and streams flowing into the sea. The landscape is
dotted with tiled-roof buildings, topped with the famous Kasaragod tiles
made with the local hard red clay and typically walled with laterite blocks.
Older houses are commonly found with elaborate woodwork.
There are 12 rivers in this district.The longest is Chandragiri (105 kms]
originating from Pattimala in Coorg and embraces the sea at Thalangara, near
Kasargod. The river assumes its name Chandragiri from the name of the place
of its source Chandragupta Vasti; where the great Maurya emperor
Chandragupta is believed to have spent his last days as a sage.

Yakshagana Bombeyatta or Puppet show is an art form of Kasargod District


and South Canara district in Karnataka State. The movements of the dolls are
monitored and controlled by strings and rods. Yakshagana is presented
through puppets and hence it is known as Yakshagana Bombeyatta. Puppets
made out of wood are painted and dressed according to the character in the
story. Bombeyatta is controlled from a curtain chamber specially put up
behind the seen for the purpose. Musical instruments are also used just as
that of Yakshagana.

Kasargod is a land of different languages. The languages without script are


also used here. Tulu, Kannada, Malayalam, Konkani, Tamil and other local
languages are the popular. Though the people speak different languages there
is no barrier on the cultural unity. Mosques, Temples and Churches stand side
by side as symbols of communal cohesion

NATIONAL MOVEMENT

Kasargod played a prominent role in the National Movement for the


freedom of the country. Mohammed Sherul Sahib and Kandige Krishna Bhat
were the frontline leaders of the independence movement. Umesh Rao,
K.M.Krishnan Nambiar, Shreesankarji, Naranthatta Raman Nair, A.C.Kannan
Nair, T.Gopalan Nair, and Meloth Narayanan Nambair were prominent
freedom fighters.

The agrarian struggles to end the exploitation and oppression by landlords


and chieftains, were part of the National Movement. The Kadakom
Sathyagraha various struggles unleashed for the uplift of the scheduled
castes and tribes also supported and enlivened in National Movement.

Arts
Thevvam

The Theyyam or Theyyattam is a popular ritual dance of North


Kerala, particularly now found in the traditional Kolathunadu, of the
present Kannur and Kasargode districts. As a living cult with century old
traditions, rituals and customs, it embraces almost all castes and classes
of Hindu religion in this region. The term Theyyam is a corrupt form of
daivam or God. It is a rare combination of dance and music and reflects
important features of a tribal culture
Yakshagana:-

The term Yakshagana would mean a style of music


and it is a musical dance drama played in the open
air.Yakshagana is one of the most important folk theatres
of Karnataka and Kasargod which has brought fame to
this region. Every village in Kasargod Taluk is familiar
with this art

.The sister art forms are the Terukkuthu of Tamilnadu,


Koodiyatam and chakyarkuttu of Kerala, Veedhinataka of 1

Andhra Pradesh.Yakshagana was originally known as


Bayalata. The stories of Yakshagana were drawn from the
Ramayana , Mahabharatha , Bhagavatha and from other
mythological episodes. The main attraction of yakshagana
is stage craft where characters like Gods, Demons and

Sanyasis are presented in a supernatural atmosphere and the audience


are carried to a world of fantasy.

One side of the stage floor Bhagavatha sits with his accompaniment.
Bhagavatha is the Narrator, Director or can be called as Suthradhara. He also
sings with the accompaniment of Tala(Jagate) Mridanga(Maddale),
Harmonium(Shruthi) and Chakrathala. Besides high pictched 'Chende' is used
in special occasions. In olden days oil lamps were used to light the stage.

The text of the yakshagana is called "Yakshagana Prasanga" which is


narrated in sets of songs. These songs are set of different Ragas and Talas
presented according to the "Kalas" ( Periods of night). There are about 100
ragas in yakshagana.The yakshagana is a total theatre because it has
everything of a performing art. It entertains and enlighten both the learned
and the illiterate.The yakshagana performances starts and ends with the
prayer to Lord Ganesha.

There are about 10 troupes of Yakshagaga Bayalata in this Dist,.Some


troupes have the heritage of 100 to 150 years.
Bombeyatta:-

Yakshagana is presented through puppets and hence it is


known as Yakshagana Bombeyatta.lt is an art form of Kasargod
District and South Canara district in Karnataka State.
String puppets and rod puppets are dressed with colourful costumes
according to the character in the story. Bombeyatta is controlled from a

curtain chamber specially put up behind the scene for the


purpose. Musical instruments are also used just as that of
Yakshagana. Different puppets enacts different characters
in accordance with the story telling by way of dialogue
followed with songs.Sri.Gopalakrishna is the one who
preserves this Yakshagana from extinction.The Sanga is
located near Sri.Bhagavathy Temple, Pulikkunnu,
Kasargod.The troupe had also participated in the
international puppet festival held at Lahore in Pakistan.

Poorakkali

This is an integral part of pooram festival celebrated during the month


of Meenam (March-April). The festival lasts for 9 days, starting from
karthika day to pooram day. Pooram is celebrated to praise and please the
god of love named Kamadeva. The song sung by the group leader is repeated
by the other artists ,in chorus. This is a dance rhythmically around a sacred
lamp with elegant steps. While dancing the players clap their hands
uniformly to the tune of the song and according to the Thalam by the group
leader. Poorakkali has got 18 different forms. Most often stories from the
epic Ramayana constitute the subject matter of the ritual songs The ritual
dance form warrants intense training and good physical stamina. The forward and
backward movements and the abrupt variations in the speed and directions
enthralls the spectators.

Invariably poorakkali is followed by a dual of wits staged to test the


intellectual capacity of the rival group leaders. This is known as Marathukali.
Where in intrigating questions are put by one leader to the other side who is
expected to answer suitably. This splendid ritual art form has become the
monopoly of certain castes namely Yadavas or Maniyanis, Thiyyas (Ezhavas)
Mukayas, Saliyas, etc. of Hindu religion.
JNV KASARAGOD -AN OVERVIEW

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya,kasaragod was established in 1986 as per


the national Policy on Education.The Vidyalaya functions under Navodaya
Vidyalaya Samiti,an autonomous organisation under the Department of
School Education & Literacy,Ministry of Human Resource
Development,Governement of India. The policy visualises the zeroing down
of the urban rural disparity in education in the country.Established with lofty
objectives this co-educational residential institution cater to the
poor,talented rural children serves as the focal point in the district .The
institution is provided with all modern facilities including integration of
computer technology in education.Location of the InstitutionThe institution
is located in the northernmost district of the state of Kerala.caressed by the
gentle breeze from the Arabian Sea,the Vidyalaya lies on the national High
Way 17 on the Kanhangad-Kasaragod segment.The institution is easily
accessible from both Kasaragod(26 km) and Kanhangad(13 km) which are
the nearest major railway stations.Land & facilitiesThe sprawling 30 acres of
land with rock outcrops and lush green vegitation is an ideal setting for
residential education.well protected by boundary walls the campus is safe
place for the inmates.

Buildings : The institution has adequate physical facilities.The academic


and administrative building is a two story building which houses spacious
class rooms,science and computer labs,audiovisual rooms,museum etc.

Laboratories : The institution has well equipped and meticulously
maintained separate

laboratories for Biology,Chemistry and Physics.The computer laboratory of


the institution is equipped with 50 computers.We have 24 hours internet
connectivity.

Museum : The Vidyalaya has established a museum with a large number of


artifacts.The items on display in the museum will enable the children to see
such antique objects and understand them

The Vidyalaya is located at PERI YE on NH 17, which is 13 KMs from


Kanhangad Railway Station/Bus Station and 24 KMs away from Kasaragod
Railway Station/Civil Station. There are a good number of private buses, as
well as KSRTC Buses which run from Kasaragod to Kanhangad, Kannur,
Payyanur, Calicut etc Via PERIYE. PERIYE is situated in between Kasaragod &
Kanhangad. Care should be taken to catch only those buses running on the
NH. You should get down at Periye Bazer from there the distance is only 0.2
KMs to Vidyalaya Campus.

National Education Policy -2020

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has proposed fundamental


changes in school education by introducing 3 years of pre-schooling in the
existing 10+2 structure. The new policy has also done away with the rigid
separation between different academic streams, which means that studentswill no
longer be segregated in Science, Arts or Commerce streams. In addition to this,
students will get vocational training with internship options from Class 6 onwards.
In regards to improving the teaching-learning progress, the NEP 2020 has made
provisions for a tracking mechanism to assess learning outcomes of students. To
promote teaching as an early career choice, the existing teacher’s training
programme will be made into a 4-year integrated B.Ed. degree. Currently, B. Ed is
a 2-year degree programme. Below are the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
highlights regarding the school education in India.

NEP 2020 - Changes in the School Education System

The current 10+2 system of education will be replaced by a new S+3+3+4


structure corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years respectively.

NEP 2020 - Introduction of Pre-schooling & Change in
Schooling Structure

The much talked about change in NEP 2020 is the overhauling of the
existing schooling structure. The new policy has introduced a 3-year pre-schooling
as part of the new schooling structure. This is aimed at putting more emphasis on
early childhood care and development.

The key NEP elements regarding the schooling structure are listed below:

• 10+2 structure of school curricula will be replaced by a 5+3+3+4 curricular


structure corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years
respectively.
• The children in the age group of 3-6 years will now come under school
curriculum.
• The new system will have 12 years of schooling with three years of
Anganwadi/pre schooling.
• NCERT will develop a National Curricular and Pedagogical Framework for
Early Childhood Care and Education (NCPFECCE) for children up to the
age of 8.
• Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) will be delivered through
Anganwadis and pre schools that will have teachers and Anganwadi
workers trained in the ECCE pedagogy and curriculum.
• The planning and implementation of ECCE will be carried out jointly by
the Ministries of HRD, Women and Child Development (WCD), Health
and Family Welfare (HFW), and Tribal Affairs.

NEP 2020 - Schooling for All,

The National Education Policy 2020 aims at bringing school education


access to all. For this, the policy states that the government will develop
infrastructural support and innovative educational centres to bring back school
dropouts into the mainstream. In the NEP 2020, the government has targeted to
bring back about 2 crore out-of-school children into the mainstream. To realise
this vision, the government will take following actions:

• The concept of open schooling to be made stronger to make school


education more accessible through NIOS and State Open Schools
• Secondary education programs equivalent to Grades 10 and 12 to be created
• Students who have dropped out of school shall be provided with options of
joining vocational courses.

NEP 2020 - Flexibility in Curricula and Pedagogy

The National Education Policy has also removed barriers of subject streams
(arts, science & commerce) that restricts students of one stream from choosing any
particular subject from another stream. Also, the vocational courses will begin at
school itself - right from Class 6. Now, students will be able to select a set of
subjects that seem interesting to them, instead of compulsorily choosing a
particular set of subjects under one stream. This flexibility in selection of subjects,
according to the NEP document, will lead to critical thinking among students and
greater focus on experiential learning.
To implement this, a new and comprehensive National Curricular Framework for
School Education, NCFSE 2020-21, will be developed by the NCERT.As per the
NEP 2020 document, students will have increased flexibility and choice of
subjects. There will be no rigid separations between arts and sciences, curricular
and extra-curricular activities, or vocational and academic streams.

NEP 2020 - Outcome Based Learning

The National Education Policy has also emphasized on learning outcomes


for school students. Instead of half-yearly or annual exams only, the students will
now have regular assessment. To make the assessment and tracking of teaching
learning outcomes transparent, a new National Assessment Centre, PARAKH
(Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic
Development), will be set up as a standard-setting body. According to the NEP,
the assessment will be more focussed on testing higher-order skills, such as
analysis, critical thinking, and conceptual clarity. In the new schooling structure,
all students will take school examinations in Grades 3, 5, and 8 followed by Board
exams for Grades 10 and 12.

NEP 2020 - A Better Teaching Environment

The National Education Policy 2020 has also intervened in how teachers
will be trained, recruited and evaluated in the new set up. To standardise the
quality of teaching in schools, a common National Professional Standards for
Teachers (NPST) will be developed by the National Council for Teacher
Education by 2022, in consultation with NCERT, SCERTs, teachers and expert
organizations.
The promotion for teachers in schools will be based on their performance on
administrative and academic assignments.

The NEP 2020 also paves the way for a greater level of collaboration among
institutions which are geographically close to each other. A cluster-wise resource

pool will be created that will comprise infrastructure, academic libraries and a
strong professional teacher community.
Further, like higher education, the NEP 2020 makes provision for policy making,
regulation, operations and academic matters in school education as well. As per
the policy documents, the States/UTs will set up an independent State School
Standards Authority (SSSA). Also, a separate school accreditation body will be set
up to assess the quality in schools.

1. THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF THE POLICY:

by sensitizing teachers as well as parents to promote each student’s
holistic development in both academic and non-academic spheres.

• ethics and human & Constitutional values like empathy, respect for others,
cleanliness, courtesy, democratic spirit, spirit of service, respect for public
property, scientific temper, liberty, responsibility, pluralism, equality, and justice;
• promoting multilingualism and the power of language in teaching and learning;
• life skills such as communication, cooperation, teamwork, and resilience; •
focus on regular formative assessment for learning rather than the summative
assessment that encourages today’s ‘coaching culture’;
• extensive use of technology in teaching and learning, removing language
barriers, increasing access for Divyang students, and educational planning and
management;
• respect for diversity and respect for the local context in all
curriculum,pedagogy, and policy, always keeping in mind that education is a
concurrent subject;
• full equity and inclusion as the cornerstone of all educational decisions to
ensure that all students are able to thrive in the education system;
• synergy in curriculum across all levels of education from early childhood care
and education to school education to higher education;

• teachers and faculty as the heart of the learning process - their recruitment,
continuous professional development, positive working environments and service
conditions;
• a ‘light but tight’ regulatory framework to ensure integrity, transparency, and
resource efficiency of the educational system through audit and public disclosure
while encouraging innovation and out-of-the-box ideas through autonomy, good
governance, and empowerment; • outstanding research as a corequisite for
outstanding education and development;
• continuous review of progress based on sustained research and regular
assessment by educational experts; • a rootedness and pride in India, and its rich,
diverse, ancient and modern culture

2.THE VISION OF THIS POLICY

• An education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to

India, that is Bharat, sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society,
by providing high-quality education to all, and thereby making India a global
knowledge superpower.
• The curriculum and pedagogy of our institutions must develop a deep sense
of respect towards the fundamental duties and Constitutional values, bonding
with one’s country, and a conscious awareness of one’s roles and responsibilities
in a changing world.
• To instill a deep-rooted pride in being Indian, not only in thought, but also in
spirit, intellect, and deeds, as well as to develop knowledge, skills, values, and
dispositions that support responsible commitment to human rights, sustainable
development and living, and global well-being, thereby reflecting a truly global
citizen.
• This policy envisions the following key changes to the current system:
a) moving towards multidisciplinary universities and colleges, with more HEIs
across India that offer medium of instruction in local/Indian languages;
b) moving towards a more multidisciplinary undergraduate education;
c) moving towards faculty and institutional autonomy;
d) revamping curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and student support
e) reaffirming the integrity of faculty and institutional leadership positions
f) establishment of a National Research Foundation
g) governance of HEIs by independent boards having academic and administrative
autonomy;

h) “light but tight” regulation by a single regulator for higher education;
i) increased access, equity, and inclusion

3. STUDENT ACTIVITY AND PARTICIPATION

• Plenty of opportunities for participation in sports, culture/arts clubs, eco-


clubs, activity clubs, community service projects, etc. • In every education
institution, there shall be counseling systems for handling stress and emotional
adjustments. • Increasing hostel facilities as needed.

• All HEIs will ensure quality medical facilities for all students in their
institutions. 4. FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS

• Efforts will be made to incentivize the merit of students belonging to SC, ST,
OBC, and other SEDGs.
• Private HEIs will be encouraged to offer larger numbers of free ships
and scholarships to their students.

5. RE IMAGINING VOCATIONAL EDUCATION

• Vocational education will be integrated into all school and higher


education institutions in a phased manner over the next decade.
• By 2025, at least 50% of learners through the school and higher education
system shall have exposure to vocational education, for which a clear action plan
with targets and timelines will be developed.
• Higher education institutions will offer vocational education either on their
own or in partnership with industry and NGOs.
• The B.Voc. degrees introduced in 2013 will continue to exist, but vocational
courses will also be available to students enrolled in all other Bachelor’s degree
programmes, including the 4-year multidisciplinary Bachelor’s programmes.
• ‘Lok Vidya’, i.e., important vocational knowledge developed in India, will be
made accessible to students through integration into vocational education courses. •
The possibility of offering vocational courses through ODL mode will also be
explored.
• MHRD will constitute a National Committee for the Integration of Vocational
Education (NCIVE), consisting of experts in vocational education and
representatives from across Ministries, in collaboration with industry, to oversee
this effort.
• Incubation centres will be set up in higher education institutions in partnership
with industries. • Indian standards will be aligned with the International Standard
Classification of Occupations maintained by the International Labour
Organization.
• The credit-based Framework will also facilitate mobility across ‘general’ and

6.EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE AND LEADERSHIP FOR HIGHER


EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS

• Through a suitable system of graded accreditation and graded autonomy, and


in a phased manner over a period of 15 years, all HEIs in India will aim to become
independent selfgoverning institutions pursuing innovation and excellence.
• Upon receiving the appropriate graded accreditations that deem the institution
ready for such a move, a Board of Governors (BoG) shall be established. Equity
considerations will also be taken care of while selecting the members.
• The BoG of an institution will be empowered to govern the institution free of
any
external interference. It is envisaged that all HEIs will be incentivized, supported,
and
mentored during this process, and shall aim to become autonomous and have such
an empowered BoG by 2035. • The BoG shall be responsible and accountable to
the stakeholders through transparent selfdisclosures of all relevant records. It will
be responsible for meeting all regulatory guidelines mandated by HECI through
the National Higher Education Regulatory Council (NHERC).

Advantages of New Education Policy 2020

• The Government aims to make schooling available to everyone with the help
of NEP 2020.
• Approximately two crore school students will be able to come back
to educational institutes through this new approach.
• According to the national education policy 2020, 5+3+3+4 structure will
replace the existing 10+2 structure. This structure is focused on student’s
formative
years of learning. This 5+3+3+4 structure corresponds to ages from 3 to 8, 8 to
11, 11 to 14 and 14 to 18. 12 years of schooling, 3 years if Anganwadi and pre
schooling are included in this structure.
• For children up to the age of 8, a National Curricular and Pedagogical
Framework
for Early Childhood Care and Education will be designed and developed by
NCERT.
Other Merits of NEP 2020

• According to the national education policy 2020, the Education Ministry is to set
up a National Mission on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. The responsibility
for successful implementation for achieving the foundation numeracy and literacy
for all students till class three falls upon the states of India. This implementation is
scheduled to be done by 2025.

• One of the merits of NEP 2020 is the formation of National Book promotion
Policy in India.* Appropriate authorities will conduct the school examinations for
grades 3, 5 and 8. The board exams for grades 10 and 12 will continue but the
NEP 2020 aims to
re-design the structure with holistic development.
• This new plan focuses on setting up a Gender Inclusion Fund. Special Education
Zones for disadvantaged regions and groups is also in the focused list.
Some more Advantages of New Education Policy 2020
• Parakh national education policy is to be set up by the Government.
• Special daytime boarding school “Bal Bhavans” to be established in every
state/ district in India. This boarding school will be used for participation in
activities related to play, career, art.
• By 2022, in consultation with teachers and expert organizations, NCERT,
SCERTs, the National Council for Teacher Education will develop a common
National
Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST).
• SSSA or independent State School Standards Authority will be set up by
the states/ UTs.
• According to the national education policy 2020, an Academic Bank of Credit
will be established. The credits earned by the students can be stored and when the
final degree gets completed, those can be counted.
More Pros of New Education Policy 2020
• According to the national education policy 2020, Multidisciplinary Education
and Research Universities at par with the IITs and IIMs will be set up in the
country.
These are scheduled to be set up for introducing multidisciplinary academic.
• The same list of accreditation and regulation rules will be used for guiding
both the public and private academic bodies.
• Phased out college affiliation and autonomy will be granted to colleges.
• By the year 2030, it will be mandatory to have at least a four year B. Ed
degree for joining the occupation of teaching.

PISA (Program for International Student Assessment)

Since the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas will be attempting the


PISA examination in 2022, the PISA eligible as well as non eligible students will
be made to attempt the Creative and Critical Thinking (CCT) examination every
month. Apart from this, all eligible will attempt PISA practice test every weekend.
All students have been divided into groups under different teachers and the
teachers regularly motivate the students assigned to them to attempt the weekend
tests as well as the monthly CCT. All teachers have formed Whatsapp groups
through which they regularly communicate with the students and track their
progress. Apart from this, the students are also given sufficient practice by
administering PISA model questions regularly. Apart from this teachers prepare
questions and send to the NVS Regional Office PISA team which is compiled and
sent to the schools for giving practice to the students. The students are also made
aware of the fact that CBSE will be gradually migrating to PISA model questions
and the pattern of the question paper will be modified accordingly. Questions
dealing with creative and critical thinking will be made a part and parcel of the
daily teaching learning process.

Remedial Instructions : ANNEXURE l

S ince all the students do not learn at the same pace, there are a few slow learners who
are taken care of by providing adequate remediation.

Every unit test is analyzed and the subject teachers identify learning gaps. The problem
of allow learning arises due to lack of interest in the study of a subject.

The activities are carried out in phased manners as follows

Phase I

Motivating the child to stimulate interest in learning and other activities.

Phase II

Regular remediation before and after unit test. The improvement is recorded and follow up
action is initiated.

Phase III

Retests are conducted for the weak students after remediation. This procedure is followed
every month.

Phase IV

Students of public examination are provided with question papers of earlier years and they
solve the same under the supervision of the teacher.

Phase V

Chapter wise revision is carried out at least two - months prior to the commencement of public
examination. This will enable the slow learners to re-learn the content chapter wise.
Phase VI

Effective repletion is carried out for the purpose of reinforcement of content area. Separate
timetable is framed for this purpose. All the teachers take up remedial instructional programmes
right from the 1st week of June, 2006

Peer learning is also encouraged to ensure that students develop confidence

CONCLUSION

Navodaya vidyalaya Samiti has selected JNV kasaragod as a Centre for


Intensive training in Football with the assistance of Sports authority of India.
As an initial step 25 students are selected from JNV kasaragod , kannur,
calicut and malappuram. The selected students will be mini migrated with the
permission of competent authority during first week of June 2006.It is
expected that promotion of talents in sports and games could also be carried
