AIR SUPPLY
Back to Agenda Page
n Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section H
The air supply should
come from an air
compressor with a storage
tank large enough to give
an ongoing supply of air at
a pressure of at least 90
pounds per square inch
(psi) and 10 cubic feet per
minute (CFM) to utilize a
traditional siphon feed
spray gun to apply paint.
AIR
COMPRESSORS

There are piston-type
compressors with single-stage
and multiple-stage
compressors, different-sized
motors, and different-sized
supply tanks. The spray gun
has to have a constant supply
of air to function properly
when painting. Air is
compressed and delivered to a
storage tank by piston-type
compressors.

SPRAY GUNS
The type of spray gun used in aircraft
painting needs to match the type of
material and system that is used during
application.
Each spray gun manufacturer publishes air
cap charts showing the optimal atomization
setting for viscosity in conjunction with the
specific gun configuration.
Making sure these settings are made for
each viscosity and temperature
combination will help produce the desired
finish.

PRESSURE
PAINT TANK
Back to Agenda Page
n Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section Header • Section H
Paint tanks, also known as
paint pressure pots, hold and
pressurize the paint used by
conventional or HVLP (high
volume low pressure) paint
sprayers. Powered by
compressed air, paint tanks
force liquids such as paints
and stains to the tip of a
paint spray gun, covering
surfaces faster and more
efficiently than hand-
painting.

FILTERS

Air filters are vital components
of painting systems. The air
handling unit should ensure that
make-up air is free from
contamination.
