END-OF-TERM EXAMS FOR ENGLISH 5

SPEAKING EXAM: 30% (FIVE TESTS)

MARKING CRITERIA

Part 1: 2 marks
Part 2: 4 marks
Part 3: 4 marks
TOTAL: 10 marks

Note:Fluency and Coherence: 30%; Grammatical Range and Accuracy: 30%;


Lexical Resource: 20%; Pronunciation: 20%

REQUIREMENTS

1. Each examinee must choose 1 of the 5 given tests by drawing lots at


random.

Note: The selected tests cannot be changed.

2. Each examinee has 5 minutes for preparation.

3. Each examinee must:

- introduce himself or herself within ONE minute;

- present a short talk about the topic in the chosen test for 1 to 2 minutes;

- answer TWO follow-up questions by the examiners.

4. Marks must be made available before the examinees sign their names.

SPEAKING TEST 1

PART 1 (2 MARKS)
You are asked to introduce yourself within one minute, including your name,
age, hometown, family, class, faculty, major of study and daily routines.

PART 2 (4 MARKS)
You have to talk about the following topic for one to two minutes.
Talk about a popular place in your country.

You should say:

where this place is

how you can get there

what people can see and do there

and explain why this place is so popular.

PART 3 (4 MARKS)
You have to answer TWO of the following questions by the examiners. Add as
many details as possible to support your answers, especially answers for
Yes/No questions (explain why/why not or give examples).

1. What do you like or dislike about your country?

2. What can foreigners do or see in your country?

3. Has your country changed much since you were a child?

4. How can your country be improved?

5. Do you think your country is a good place to bring up children?

6. When is the best time to visit your country?

7. Is there anything famous in your country?

8. If you could change something in your country, what would it be?

9. What country or city in the world do you like the most?

10. What place in your country would you like to recommend to foreigners?

SPEAKING TEST 2

PART 1 (2 MARKS)
You are asked to introduce yourself within one minute, including your name,
age, hometown, family, class, faculty, major of study and daily routines.

PART 2 (4 MARKS)
You have to talk about the following topic for one to two minutes.
Talk about an interesting house or apartment that you have visited.

You should say:

where the house or apartment was

who lived there

what it looked like outside and/or inside

and explain why you found this house or apartment interesting.

PART 3 (4 MARKS)
You have to answer TWO of the following questions by the examiners. Add as
many details as possible to support your answers, especially answers for
Yes/No questions (explain why/why not or give examples).

1. What kind of housing/accommodation do you live in?

2. Which room does your family spend most of the time in?

3. What do you usually do in your house/flat/room?

4. Is the transport infrastructure to your home good?

5. Do you prefer living in a house or a flat?

6. Please describe the room you are living in.
