POSTER MAKING

A poster is a temporary promotion of an idea, product, or event put in a public


space for mass communication. Posters include both textual and graphical
elements. Posters are designed to be both eye – catching and informative. It is an
amalgam of notices, advertisements and invitations.

Points to remember

• A good poster must catch the attention of the passersby.


• Striking designs and ornate work are two important features of good posters.
• There need not be many details in a poster. Only important issue /issues
should be highlighted through catchy phrases, slogans.
• Use of bold or capital letters is preferred.
• Slogan construction preferred to complete sentences.
• Slogan /Text can be arranged in any shape.
• Sketch/diagrams/ illustrations to be used (at least 1).
• At least one punch line to be used (in phrases).
• Draw a box outside the text.
• Footnote (‘Issued by/Issued in Public Interest by…’)
• Layout: Visually catchy
Catchy title (in block letters)
Fonts of different sizes and shapes (3 maximum)
Sketch or simple visuals
• Content: Theme/Subject
Essential details (date, venue, time etc.)
Name of the Issuing authority/organizers
• Arrange contents in a pleasing readable way.
• Marks are given on the basis of how effectively the given message is
conveyed.
• Word Limit-50 words (3Marks)
