1. An RL circuit has an electromagnetic force (E(t)) given (in volts) by 3 sin 2t, a resistance (R) of 10 ohms, an

inductance (L) of 0.5 henry, and an initial current (i) of 6 amperes. Find the current in the circuit at any time t?

2. how that y = x is a solution of

′′ ′
x2 y − x(2 + x cot x)y + (2 + x cot x)y = 0,

and find the general solution of this equation. Use the method of variation of parameters to find the general

solution of the nonhomogeneous equation

′′ ′
x2 y − x(2 + x cot x)y + (2 + x cot x)y = x3 sin x.

3. (a). Use the change of variables for evaluating the following double integrals:
ZZ
(x + y)3 (x − y)2 dA where D = {(x, y) : x + y = 1, x − y = 1} (Hint: use the transformation x + y = u
D
and x − y = v)
ZZ p
(b). Evaluate 9 − x2 − y 2 dA where D is the region in the first quadrant within x2 + y 2 = 1
D

4. Use a triple integral to find the volume of the solid:

1. bounded by the surface y = x2 and the planes x + y = 0 and z = 0

2. bounded by the surface z = y and the planes x + y = 0 and z = 0
p
3. limited by the surfaces z = x2 + y 2 and z = x2 + y 2

5. Find the value of the constant λ such that the vector field defined by

F = (2x2 y 2 + z 2 )i + (3xy 3 − x2 z) + j + (λxy 2 z + xy)k

is solenoidal.

2x(x + y) dx + (x2 + xy + y 2 ) dy around the square with vertices at (0, 0), (1, 0), (1, 1), and (0, 1).

(b). Use the Green theorem in a plane to evaluate the line integral

(ex − 3y 2 ) dx + (ey + 4x2 ) dy
C

where C is the circle x2 + y 2 = 4. (Hint: Use polar coordinates to evaluate the double integral).
