ABSTRACT
Originally the development of renewable energy sources was driven by the need for
reliable and sustainable electricity system in the face of global energy crisis. Being a
laboratory curiosity for more than a hundred years, the solar cell technology has seen
enormous development during the last four decades, initially for providing electrical
power for spacecrafts and terrestrial applications. At present, photovoltaic (PV) systems
have become an established part of the electrical energy mix in Europe, the United States,
Japan, China, Australia and many more countries all around the globe. At the end of 2015,
the total global cumulative capacity of installed PV systems exceeded 227 giga watts, and
this capacity is equivalent to about 280 coal-fired plants. So far, no single other energy
technology has shown such a distributed set-up and modularity as PV systems. The
second-generation solar cells are now in uprising trend to discover more hidden
potentiality of different solar cells. The prompted researchers are now looking for new
prospect in designing highly efficient and cost-effective commercial cells. This is where
we get the inspiration of our selected research work. By choosing proper absorber layer
thickness, doping concentration, TCO, window and BSF layer, it can be considered as
future deliberation to fabricate an efficient, maintainable and inexpensive ZnTe absorber
layer based photovoltaic solar cell.
Acknowledgement
Above all, we would like to express our immense gratitude to our supervisor Assistant Professor
Mr. Mrinmoy Dey for accepting us into his research group and for his tremendous guidance,
relentless motivation and continuous support during our graduate studies. His enthusiasm for
teaching and research offered challenging opportunities to expand our scientific knowledge and
our growing interest in Renewable Energy and it’s vastness in research world.
