DRUG TRENDS
Terrible consequences for society.
INTRODUCTION

New drugs and drug use trends often burst on the scene rapidly, around the
world. Drug use can impact on your physical and mental health. It can also lead
to social problems and have negative effects on relationships with family and
friends. As some drugs are illegal, there can also be legal ramifications
associated with drug use.

DRUG TRENDS

Terrible consequences for society.


When someone abuse of drugs is more likely to engage in risk-taking
behaviors, have a higher co-occurrence of mental disorders, and are more
likely to be incarcerated for crimes committed than non-drug using individuals.

The following trends are identified from 2019.


Three emerging trends could prove damaging if ignored: (1) cocaine use by
young adults is increasing and cocaine-involved overdoses have exploded.
Cocaine is an illegal drug. As a street drug, cocaine looks like a fine, white,
crystal powder. Street dealers often mix it with things like cornstarch, talcum
powder, or flour to increase profits. 
(2) Heroin and Synthetic opioids are driving opioid overdose deaths these are
manufactured by pharmaceutical companies, they are also manufactured
illegally in clandestine labs and distributed through the illicit drug market.
(3) Marijuana. People smoke marijuana in hand-rolled cigarettes (joints) or in
pipes or water pipes (bongs).  Marijuana refers to the dried leaves, flowers,
stems, and seeds from the Cannabis sativa plant.
- How Drug Abuse Affects Society:
- Increase in child custody losses
- Increase in child abuse and neglect
- Increase in addiction risks for children of drug-addicted parents
- Increase in domestic disputes
- Increased rates of homelessness and poverty
- Substantial financial health care burden
- Increased rates of co-occurring mental disorders
- Increase in insurance premiums, taxes
- Increased strain on co-workers
- Increase in the number of people incarcerated in state and federal
prisons
- Increase in rates of violent crimes on college campuses
- Losses in revenue for businesses and universities

CONCLUSION
Drug addiction have been a social problem over the years, fortunately drug
addiction is treatable and can be successfully managed. It’s extremely sad how
drugs can destroy families and relationships. It is important to reflect and
meditate on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs. It is our duty to
help and contribute. Try to eradicate this scourge that one day can knock on
our door. Let us be aware, educate in values and have social commitment.
