Note
The life-span of an inverter is strongly influenced by the prevailing environmental conditions. The
higher the temperature, the shorter the life-span of the inverter will be. A permanently humid
environment will also negatively affect the life-span of the equipment.
In the overall planning of a PV system a favorable location for the inverter should be found.
Notice
Solutronic AG is not liable for the consequences arising from faulty
installation of the inverter!
Among these consequences are:
Damage to the display and keyboard foil, deterioration of
readability
Fading of the print on the housing, the look of the housing
deteriorates
Therefore, chose the place of installation for the inverter so that the device
is not directly or indirectly exposed to UV radiation:
The device must not be exposed to direct sunlight
The device must be protected from reflections by glass facades
or PV modules
• The maximum installation altitude is 2000 m above sea level. If the unit is to be installed at an
altitude higher than this, please contact us. Specific derating factors must be taken into
account.
• If the inverter is to be used in a coastal area, it must be installed indoors. This is because salt
spray and salt mist can lead to corrosion of and inside the enclosure.
• Advice: Due to the high system voltage, a lower current always flows on the DC side as on the
AC side. Losses for a given cable size are therefore greater for the AC wiring as for the DC
wiring. For this reason, given thermal considerations it is advisable to place the inverter near
to the meter box, at best in the basement.
• The environmental temperature must be between –20 °C and +40 °C .
• Please avoid mounting the equipment in such a way that it can be exposed to direct
sunlight. This is not allowed because extended exposure to UV rays can damage the display
and the keypad. In addition, warming due to sunlight can cause unnecessary heat stress to
the equipment.
• The distance above and below to the nearest inverter, cupboard, ceiling or other object must
be at least 30 cm, and it is best if it is at least 50 cm. Please allow adequate fresh air
access and warm air removal to prevent unnecessary overheating.
• The distance on the left and right of the equipment to the nearest inverter, meter, cupboard,
wall or other object must be at least: 20 cm, and it is better if it is 30 cm.
• When installing the SOLPLUS in a switch cupboard or other such place, forced ventilation
must be in place in order to ensure adequate removal of warm air.
• Noise may be produced, which means that installation in residential areas should be
avoided.
• The free flow of air around the container and around/through the heat sinks must not be
obstructed.
• The unit must be installed over a non-flammable base.
• The heat-sink can reach a temperature of over 80 °C.
• N.B.: The inverter must never be exposed to ammonia or any other aggressive vapours
or gases (such as present in stables)! Ignoring this warning and installing the inverter in such
an area shall render any warranty claims invalid. The dealer or fitter who installed the unit
shall be liable for all costs incurred during any subsequent servicing/repair work that may be
required.
1 power drill
4 wall plugs
4 dowels
1 ground cable
1 Screwdriver
1 Allen key 3mm
The SOLPLUS is mounted to a secure surface on the wall with the help of a mounting angle. For this
you require screws and dowels appropriate the qualities of the wall (not included in delivery).
Caution!
The inverter is very heavy (40 kg). For your own safety, always work as a
team of two when attaching the inverter to and/or detaching it from its
mounting bracket.
Step 1
Mark the holes which need to be bored in the wall, using the
mounting angle as a guide. Please be careful to ensure that these
are vertically placed.
Step 2
Then use a power drill to drill the holes. (Drill the holes to a
diameter and depth appropriate to the wall structure and use
appropriate screws).
Step 3
Insert the dowel and screw the angle to the wall with the screw.
Secure the mounting bracket to the wall with the 4 screws (not
part of scope of delivery). The mounting bracket weighs approx.
1,5 kg.
Step 4
Hang the inverter from above from the mounting angle. The angle
will then be between the outermost slats of the heat sink.
Step 5
The two screws supplied, M5x20, are now to be screwed into the
corresponding holes of the mounting angle through the heat sink
in order to fix the inverter in place. For this you will require an
Allen key. It may be necessary to lift the unit by 1 - 2 mm in order
to be able to screw the screws without resistance.
Check that the equipment is secure!
Note
Please note: the maximum permissible tightening torque for the M5x20
screws is 4 Nm. Check that the equipment is secure!

Note
Opening of the inverter must only be carried out when the power is switched off!
• Disconnect the AC side of the unit (unplug the Wieland connector or disconnect the in-line
fuse).
• Set the DC isolator to "0".
• Unplug the DC connectors. Note: If you do not disconnect the DC connectors, the generator
voltage will still be applied to the DC option and the input terminals of the DC isolator despite
you having set the DC isolator to "0"!
• Wait until the internal capacitors have fully discharged (5 minutes) before you open the cover.
• First, unscrew all screws, taking care that the cover does not fall after unscrewing the last
screw.
• Then carefully move the cover a few centimetres, carefully pull the ribbon cable out of the
electronic assembly and then place the cover to one side.
• Please take care not to damage the ribbon cable, which is connected to the operating unit
(LCD, keypad and LED) in the cover over the electronic assembly in the unit.
When replacing the cover, the ribbon cable must first carefully be reconnected to the electronic
assembly, and the cover then replaced and secured with the 8 screws.
When connecting and disconnecting the ribbon, please ensure that you do not tilt the plug, bend any
pins or pull unnecessarily on any wires. Do not touch the electronic assembly directly under any
circumstances.
Note
Please observe the ESD regulations. Put a potential equalisation between yourself and the flat
place on the casing. Avoid under any circumstances touching any parts on the inside of the
inverter with any other parts, plastic parts, foils, clothing etc. Replace the cover immediately after
installation in order to protect the electronics.
Note
Please note: the maximum permissible tightening torque for the screws is
1.2 Nm.
Caution!
Installation of the SOLPLUS must only be carried out by trained
professionals. The installer must be approved by the responsible electricity
company.
Warning!
The electrical connection of the SOLPLUS and the turning on of the DC and
AC current must take place in the order described here.
Note
The inverter is not allowed to be installed in a low-voltage system with TT
earthing system without previously contacting Solutronic. Separate
measures must be taken in the case of a TT earthing system to ensure no
problems arise. This requires that the fitter make specific parameter
settings that we will provide on request.
All applicable safety regulations, the technical connection regulations of the company and the VDE
(German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) regulations must be
observed.
PE connection
For longer lengths of cable, a larger cross-section of wire should be used. According to VDE 0100 Part
430 „Protection of cables and wiring in case of over-current“, when in fixed installations and in a
temperature of 25°C in laying system B2, be fused a s followed:
If installing more than one inverter, please leave a distance of at least one unit (approx. 18 mm)
between their respective fuses. This will prevent fuses being fused by warming each other. By doing
so, you prevent the fuses (PE conductor) from tripping each other due to the heat emitted when the
power level being fed into the grid is high.
Warning!
Take care to use an adequately large cross section of cable so as not to
create too large an increase in the network impedance (internal resistance
of the electricity supply network) from the wiring between the network and
the SOLPLUS
Explanation
The impedance value is the sum of the network impedance at the building’s connection and all
resistance values of the other cables and terminals. With a high network impedance, i.e. with long
lengths of cabling on the AC side, the voltage at the network terminals of the inverters is increased
when feeding power to the network. This voltage is measured by the inverter. Should it exceed a
defined limit (preset to 265 V), the inverter switches off due to grid overvoltage. This must be
considered when dimensioning the AC circuit. Please note also that warming of the cable will result in
reduced performance of your system.
The plug which the cable will be connected with is included in the unit. It is already disassembled into
two parts so that the grid connection cable can be connected directly.
Note
If you have to check the grid connection in the AC mating connector while
in assembled condition, take the two connector parts apart again. Open
the unit by pressed with a screwdriver on the security latches on the side.
Underneath is the connection terminal for the grid connection.
Wieland-plug
Step 1
Bend the cable into shape first in order to avoid tension in the
plug. Strip approx. 30 mm of the cable. Cut the wires to the
same length. Use a stripper to remove approx. 10 mm of
insulation.
abgemanteltes Kabel, abisolierte Adern
Step 2
If using a cord, crimp the appropriate cable end sleeves onto
the three bare wires of the cable. Now open the connecting nut
of the connector and feed the connecting cable through the
connecting nut. The grid connection has 3 wires (N, L, PE).
PE= Step 3
green/ Once you have pulled the grid connection cable through the
yellow connecting nut, connect the grid cable to the connection
L= terminals as follows:
grey
N=
blue

Step 4
Check the cable is correctly connected. Push the two parts of
the plug together until the security clips snap shut on both
sides. Then do up the connecting nut tightly.
.
Note
• Take care that all 3 wires of the grid cable are exactly the same length, so that all 3 can
be put deeply enough into the plug and correctly connected.
• Take care to ensure a good cord grip.
• The Wieland plug connector is suitable for flexible cables of up to 4 mm or stiff cables of
up to 6mm cross-section.
• We recommend you use cable with 4 mm² stranded cores, because this type of cable is
easier to handle and no strain arises that could potentially lead to the contacts being
pulled out of the plastic section.
• Please take care, that all 3 contact parts (L, N, PE) are clearly clinched, otherwise there
will be no contact.
The photos below illustrate the different connection types (Tyco and MC4).

Note
In order to fulfil advanced security requirements, we suggest to use fuses on the DC-side of the
inverter.
This fuse has to be dimensioned in order to get activated in case of a short circuit, but to withstand any
normal operating conditions (Maximum DC-current, maximum operating temperature etc.).
Fuses for DC in PV-applications meanwhile are available from several manufacturers. Please install
this fuse in plus or minus circuit between PV-generator and inverter in a way, that standard installation
requirements are fulfilled and that the fuse is accessible in case of failure. Should you have questions
concerning dimensioning of the fuse, please contact our service.
Caution!
The polarity of the voltage at the plug must be checked before connection to
the PV system.
Step 1
Plug in the DC connectors and make sure that they are properly locked in position.
The positive sockets in the inverter are towards the top (cover side) of the unit, the negative sockets
towards the bottom (wall side). See Point 7.2.1, DC connector types.
+
–
Caution!
To protect to the maximum extent possible against the risk of dangerous
touch voltages during the mounting of the PV system, the plus and the
minus wires must be kept apart from the PE. Check that the PV generator
installation is earth free before connecting the PV generator to the
SOLPLUS.
Warning!
In the case of transformerless inverters, only modules of protection class II
may be connected. Check whether your modules belong to this protection
category. The module frames must also be earthed.
Ascertain the DC voltage between the PE and the positive wire, or the PE and minus wire of the PV
generator.
If stable voltages can be measured here, then the PV generator or its cabling has an earth connection.
The relationship of the two voltages gives a clue as to where error is located, which must be removed
before any further measurements are taken.
Ascertain the electrical resistance between the PE and the positive wire, or the PE and the negative
wire of the PV generator. A low resistance (< 2 MΩ) indicates a high-ohm earth connection of the PV
generator, which must be removed before continuing with the installation.
Caution!
The voltage of the solar generator must be measured before connection of
the DC wires to the inverter terminals. The DC voltage must not exceed 850
V. Connection of a higher voltage will lead to damage of the equipment.
In order to start running the inverter you need reconstruct the DC connection and to switch to position
closed (I).
Note
In case of maintenance we strictly recommend to separate the inverter from the PV generator
(Deactivation of the grid security).
Warning!
If the inverter is free from tension, you have to wait 5 minutes for the
internal condensers to discharge before opening up the casing.
Caution!
The separation with help of the Connectors described below is not allowed.
Danger!
Never disconnect the DC plug connectors from the inverter before you have
switched off the inverter. Danger Electric arcs arising during separation of the
DC plug connection produce the danger of electric shock, fire or consequential
loss due to shock.
Note
1.) This does not affect the settings of the ENS in accordance with VDE 0126.
2.) The same applies to the protection against fall in voltage. Should this need to be changed,
Parameter 53 (UACMIN) needs to be set.
Please see the „Declaration concerning additional adjusted voltage surge protection“ on the last
page of these installation instructions. It can also be downloaded from www.solutronic.de in PDF
format.
Caution!
Warning!
Even after detaching all electrical connections, potentially lethal voltage
remains present in the inverter. Please wait for 5 minutes to allow the
condensers to discharge before interfering with the inverter. Warning: The
surface can become hot!
6 Operating states
The operating states of the SOLPLUS 25 - 55 inverters are indicated by means of a light-emitting
diode (LED) and on the display.
The LED has two colours and indicates the instantaneous operating state of the inverter. The actual
operating state is indicated on the display.
For the operating state to be identified, the DC side of the inverter must be connected to the PV
modules and a minimum voltage of approx. 280 V must be input into the inverter.

Note
If the LED on the inverter lights up red or red/green, read up the fault description in the Installation
Instructions manual or note down the warning/alarm/fault message indicated on the display and
contact your fitter.
7 Error reports
Your SOLPLUS inverter works fully automatically and without maintenance. However, operational
problems may arise (usually briefly) as a result of internal or external causes. The corresponding error
reports will then be shown on the display. The errors which arise are saved. The inverter saves the
last 100 errors in the Error Memory menu, together with the date and time.
The operational state of the inverter is shown by the LEDs and the LCD display.
Caution!
The surface of the inverter housing can become hot when the inverter is in
operation. Very hot! Do not touch!
Switch the inverter off before you clean the cooling fins. (Caution: the inverter requires at least 5 min.
to discharge.) Clean the cooling fins using a suitable brush.
Note
If the display is difficult to read due to dust or dirt, you can use a damp cloth to wipe it clean. You can
also clean the enclosure the same way.
