PRESENT PERFECT

Actions that started in the past and have continued until now
Fill in the gaps with present perfect simple or past simple, using the verbs in parentheses:
1 “Is your work going well?”
“I haven’t had any problems so far, but yesterday I had lots of problems.”

2 “Can you play bridge?”


“Yes. But I haven’t played for a long time.”

3 How long has Geoff worked for the company? (He is still there)

4 How long did Geoff work for the company? (He has a new job)

5 I lived in Paris for five years. I have lived here in Berlin since 2010.

6 I started in this company in 2015. Then I left two years later.

7 I knew Jill when we were at school. Mark has known her for two years.

8 I have felt cold since we came into the house.

9 I have felt cold since we have been in the house. (“Be” is not an action. It is a state. So:
since this state started in the past and
has continued until now.)

10 I haven’t eaten since breakfast. Then, I only had an apple.

Fill in the gaps with since or for:

2 I have waited here since three o’clock.

3 I have hated bananas since childhood.

4 I haven’t seen him since 1995.
