BACKGROUND OF COVID-19

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a virus that was first detected in Wuhan
City, China, during an epidemic of respiratory sickness patients. On March 11, 2020, the
World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that the coronavirus outbreaks were a
global pandemic. On the 25th of January 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was detected
in Malaysia and traced back to 3 Chinese nationals who previously had close contact with
an infected person in Singapore. Malaysia, which has registered 37,443 cases as of 5
November 2020, has placed all of its states under lockdown since 18 March 2020, since
the number of illnesses in the nation has grown sharply.

The symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, dry cough, and tiredness. The majority of those
infected with the virus will suffer from mild to severe respiratory sickness and recover
without additional treatment. Some of them will get very sick and need medical care.
People who are older or who have underlying diseases such as cardiovascular disease,
diabetes, chronic lung disease, or cancer are more prone to acquire severe illness. At
any age, anybody may get COVID-19 and become very ill or even worse they can die.

The most effective method for preventing and slowing the spread of a disease or virus is
knowledge about the illness. Protect yourself and others against infection by maintaining
a distance of at least 1 meter from people, wearing a mask that fits correctly, and often
washing your hands or using a hand sanitizer. Moreover, despite being in an endemic
area, we must take precautions to prevent further spread.
