1.

In each of the cases who benefits and who suffers

from the alleged ethical and legal lapses of Airbus?
Politics has a significant impact on how the business runs. This is in accordance with the impact of
politics on ordering airplanes directly from manufacturers. Simply because Sabena expanded its
order, Airbus Firm profited; yet, Sabena Company lost as a result of an unforeseen purchase that
caused the company to fail. Airbus Company lost in the Kuwaiti Kickbacks case merely because
Kuwait Airways Corporation did not fulfill the order that it had intended to place with the business.
The $ 450 000 it contributed to the business' operations was the cause of the company's suffering.

2. How should the public relations staff at Airbus

respond to the articles appearing in The Economist and
the Guardian?
It is true that both businesses are influenced politically in terms of how they do business. The
corporation should make sure that the image has been cleared as the public is there to see how the
businesses function under political control. The corporation should make sure they have
demonstrated to the public relations personnel that management has changed in order to have the
company's image modified. It ought to inform the public that the previous management, which was
heavily affected by political ideas, has been replaced and that the new leadership is committed to
moving the organization in the correct path.

3. What steps might Boeing take to defend itself from

this sort of competition?
Boeing Company is required to develop a strategy on how to deal with the competition. The
first approach the company should employ is lowering its cost. Since other companies’ prices
are higher Boeing should focus on working with minimum cost such as making its
manufacturing orders from suppliers who are cheaper.

4. Do you think that Boeing and Airbus behave

differently in marketing their aircraft around the globe?
How and why?
I believe that the two aircraft companies behave differently in marketing their
products around the globe.
Airbus Company use political influence in marketing its aircrafts. This is to attract
more customers for they will get some discounts on the quantity they will purchase
from the company.
On contrary Boeing uses another method in marketing its aircrafts to the consumers.
The use of another strategy is to ensure that areas that the other company has not
touched have been provided with whatever they want

5. Had France adopted the OECD convention on bribery

ahead of these transactions, would the firms behavior
have differed? Why?
Yes, if France would have adopted the OECD earlier the middlemen would not have hadthe
ability to “bribe” Syrianair into buying Airbus’s planes. According to the OECD website the
OECD Ainti-Bribery Convention establishes legally binding standards to criminalise bribery of
foreign public officials in international business transactions. It is the first and on international
anti-corruption device that focuses on the supply side of thetransaction. If France would have
adopted these policies earlier Boeing would probably have won the contract because both
companies would have had to sell their planes ethically based on their companies customer
service and the overall quality and reliability of their aircraft. We have learned from day 1
here at Slippery Rock that operating a business unethically with inevitably hurt yourself but
also the company you are working for. Even if a fellow employee is doing it does not mean it
is the right thing to do, especially if upper management is practicing unethical behavior it can
only lead tomore unethically practicing which can ruin a lot of business deals in the future if
clients cannot trust you or the company.
