WORKSHEET #1

Reflection Paper
Write a one-page essay reflecting on the following:

Can a school exist without a curriculum? Why or why not?

As a future teacher, how important is a curriculum to you?

According to Albert Oliver (1977), “Curriculum is the educational program of the

school”. If there is no curriculum, how can the learners achieve education and what can
the teacher provide in order to give what’s best for the learners to learn? A systematic
approach in learning is good in a school. Why? Because we already are learning firstly
in our home, by our family, but it is not like how the school teaches us. We just grasp
things without knowing the very reason of it, and obey and decide to learn what we see
and what they give to us. We became confused from the experiences we had because
of not learning how it became beforehand, but with curriculum, we were able to learn
and acknowledge things step by step and from the major theories of learning, like the
spiral curriculum of Jerome Bruner, we were accommodated so we can understand the
lessons very well and not be overloaded by them.

As a future teacher, there are more to know about curriculum that I should look
forward to learn. Curriculum for me is very important as it serves us teacher as guide to
what we can serve to the students so they will not be overwhelmed by the knowledge
that we share and therefore make them understand everything that soon can also help
them in their lives and not just forget about them at all. If a student learns, then a
teacher teaches well.
