Karnataka:

PLACES TO VISIT
The geography and landscape of Karnataka is such that
it serves as an ideal destination for diverse and
enthralling tourist locations and landmarks. Located in
the midst of Western Ghats, Deccan Plateau, Karnataka
is home to various forests, beaches, waterfalls, coffee
plantations, lakes and all the bounties of nature.

The state also boasts of historically significant


monuments and structures that attract visitors from far
and beyond.

Also culturally diverse and ancient, Karnataka has a


historic past and rich heritage for the travelers to
explore.

Bandipur National Park – In Harmony with Nature

Get as close as you can to natural wildlife in Bandipur


National Park. Perfect haven for animal lovers who
want to get engrossed in the sights and sounds of the
forest.
Do not miss the Tiger Reserve and the Bird Sanctuary
of the national park. The rich fauna and flora in the
reserve will leave you asking for more. It is a perfect
choice for a day picnic. Some of the wildlife you can
spot here are elephants, the spotted deer, antelopes.
This attraction is about 80 km from the Mysore railway
station and about 220 km from the airport.

Udupi –Taste of Authentic Karnataka


Udupi, a town near Mangalore sandwiched between
the Arabian Sea and Western Ghats is famously known
for 2 things- Temples and Food. The beautiful and huge
Sri Krishna temple in Udupi attracts devotees from all
over the world. There is also a Shiva temple here which
is believed to be over a 100 years old.

The “Udupi Cuisine” has become a household name


among food connoisseurs for delicious south Indian
food with the unique Udupi flavour.

Udupi is about 60 km from Mangalore airport and it


has a railway station of its own, the Udupi rail station.
Food:
Karnataka’s cuisine takes influence from its neighbours
like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and
Maharashtra. However, the flavours change from
region to region. Mangalore and Uttara Canara are
famous for their tangy seafood. South Karnataka is
known for various types of Bath. North Karnataka food
is much spicier in comparison to the other parts of
Karnataka. Food grains such as ragi, rice, jower, urad
dal, semolina are some staples. Palm jaggery is also an
important ingredient in Karnataka’s cuisine.

Flora and Fauna:


The state of Karnataka in South India has a rich
diversity of flora and fauna. It has a recorded forest
area of 38720 km2 which constitutes 22.3467719% of
the total geographical area of the state. These forests
support 25% of the elephant population and 20% of
the tiger population of India. Many regions of
Karnataka are still unexplored and new species of flora
and fauna are still found. The Western Ghats
mountains in the western region of Karnataka are a
biodiversity hotspot.The Bandipur and Nagarahole
national parks which fall outside these subclusters
were included in the Nilgiri biosphere reserve in 1986,
a UNESCO designation. Biligiriranga Hills in Karnataka is
a place where Eastern Ghats meets Western Ghats.
The state bird and state animal of Karnataka are Indian
roller and the Indian elephant respectively. The state
tree and state flower are sandalwood and lotus
respectively. Karnataka is home to 524 tigers

UTTARAKHAND:

This North Indian state has everything that a traveller


may desire! Nature’s bounty for nature lovers, an array
of thrilling activities for adventurous souls, many
spiritual places for pilgrims, rich wildlife for wildlife
enthusiasts, colourful festivals for those on a cultural
trip, the list goes on! Even if you just want some peace
to reconnect with yourself, Uttarakhand will surely
fulfil your wish.

PLACES TO VISIT:

Dehradun
This quaint city in the Doon Valley, with the Himalayas
in the background, often finds its way to the list of the
must-visit places in Uttarakhand. A clear blue sky, lush
green trees and chilly weather will give a hearty
welcome here. Once you reach the city, start
sightseeing right away. Here are the must-see places!
Sahastradhara, Tiger Falls, Tapovan, Lacchiwala,
Mindrolling Monastery, Malsi Deer Park and Robber’s
Cave!

Rishikesh:

he famous yoga capital of the world! Well, it surely


justifies its name with the huge number of yoga
ashrams and centres it houses. When you are here,
you should definitely try your hand at the different
types of yoga. But there’s more to this ancient city than
yoga. The religious values and the scenic beauty here
are fascinating. Talking about sightseeing here, Laxman
Jhula, Ram Jhula, Tera Manzil Mandir, Shri Bharat
Mandir, Triveni Ghat , the Beatles Ashram, Shivpuri,
Neelkanth Mahadev Temple and Jumpin Heights

Food:

Cuisines of Uttarakhand are simple and made of locally


grown ingredients. The cuisines don't have complex
spices. The two regions in Uttarakhand have different
cuisines,the Garhwali Cuisines and Kumaoni Cuisines.
Some popular dishes of Uttarakhand cuisine are:
Rabri (that made with Jhongora (shyama ka chawal) &
Chaas (butter milk) adding leafs of Radish.)
Khadi or jhwāi (made with Curd or buttermilk)

Flora and Fauna:
Uttarakhand shelters around 4,000 species of plants,
belonging to 1198 genera, under 192 families. Of
these, 161 species are recognised as rare or threatened
by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Around 223 species of orchids have been found in
North India, and of these, 150 are from Uttarakhand.
The state is home to about 102 species of mammals,
623 types of avifauna, 124 varieties of fish, 19 types of
amphibians and 69 categories of reptiles. Some of the
highly endangered faunae you can find in Uttarakhand
are Asian elephant, snow leopard, tiger, musk deer,
Himalayan monal, king cobra, bharal, etc. The state has
6 wildlife sanctuaries and 6 national parks. The first
national park of India, the Corbett National Park, was
established in Uttarakhand in 1936.
