C. Abstraction Our topic for today is “A Teacher for The

World; Are You In? The Global Teacher”

Before we start, anyone can please read our

objectives for today?

Yes, Karlo. You are acknowledged.

(Karlo reads the
Objectives.)
Thank you, Karlo. Please be seated.

Now, let us start our discussion.

First, let’s define the word globalization.

Any idea from the class? What is

globalization?
Yes, Joy?

I think Sir,
globalization, means
a more connected
world. It is the
movement and
integration of goods
and people among
different countries.
Very good Joy, that’s correct. Give her claps
everyone.

(The students will

clap their hands.)
To better understand the word, I have
definitions here.

When we say Globalization:

• Thomas Larson (2001) in his book

The Race to the Top: The Real Story
of Globalization has defined the term
as the process of world shrinkage, of
distance getting shorter, and things
moving closer.
• The integration of economics and
societies all over the world involves
technological, economic, political,
and cultural exchanges made
possible largely by advances in
communication, transportation, and
infrastructures.
• Is a simplified term for describing the
spread and connectivity of economic
and cultural life all over the world.
• Finds a greater impact on education
due to the advent of globalization, the
way people think, study, and learn
has changed tremendously.

Do you absorb the idea of globalization?

Let’s Continue… Yes, Sir.

Globalization finds a greater impact on

education.

• The way people think

• Studying and learning have changed
tremendously
• Rapids developments in technology
and communications,
• Changes within learning systems
• Changing roles of students and
teachers
• The major concern on lifelong
learning

Those are the impact of Globalization on

Education.

Now, let’s proceed to define what is Global

Education.
Do any of you have an idea of what Global
Education is?

Yes, Kayla.
I Think Sir, global
education
incorporates learning
about the cultures,
geographies,
histories, and current
issues of all the
world's regions. It
emphasizes the
interconnectedness
and diversity of
peoples and
histories.
Yes, precisely Kayla. Clap your hands for
Kayla.

(The students will

clap their hands.)
At this juncture, lets proceed to the…

Global Education

• An “education which promotes the

knowledge, attitudes, and skills
relevant to living responsibly in a
multicultural, interdependent world”
(Fisher and Hicks, 1985).
• Kniep (1985) states that global
education consists of efforts to bring
out changes in the content, methods,
and social context of education in
order to better prepare students for
citizenship in a global age.
• develops skills such as critical and
creative thinking, problem-solving,
conflict resolution, and
communication skills.
• It promotes values like respect for
diversity, a commitment to peace and
harmony, and empathy with peoples
of the world thus, taking concrete
steps locally and globally to make a
better world.

Do you understand Global Education,

students?

Any Questions?

Yes, Sir.

If none let us proceed on “Becoming a

Global Teacher.”
None, Sir.

➢ Various experts believe that a global

teacher should be an expert in his
field, a good communicator,
pragmatic, critical thinker, problem
solver, and creative thinker.
➢ Others believe that the most
important skill that a global teacher
should possess is information
literacy.
The characteristics of a global teacher can
be categorized into two: a global teacher
with CHARACTER and a global teacher with
COMPETENCE.

So, based on our activity recently, what

characteristics of a global teacher have you
identified?

(Students will answer

any of these, that are
related to
Commitment. Love
for learners,
Accountability for
high standards,
Very Good class!
Sociability, and
Sincerity)

How about the competencies of global

teachers?

(The students will

show in any one of
these competencies,
or that related to
Wow, you are so attentive, class! Pedagogical content,
Knowledge, Problem-
solving, Critical
Now let’s continue… thinking, and
Creative thinking).
A global teacher should have the heart to
love the unlovable, to endure the
unbearable, and she or he must have the
competence to make learning possible.

Can you apply these when you are now a

teacher soon?

Great! I will look it up!

Yes, Sir. We will work

for it!
In your idea class? Did CHARACTER and
COMPETENCE are the same or different?

Some say yes and some say no.

(Students can be
divisive on this point
and raise opinions
So, this is it.
with it.)
The CHARACTER of the teacher refers to
his/her personal characteristics while
COMPETENCE refers to the professional
traits of the teacher needed in the effective
performance of his/her work.

➢ The teacher should be a model of

good behavior before he/she can
demand the same behavior from the
students.
➢ A teacher with desirable character
should have CLASS: Commitment,
Love of learners, Accountability for
high Standards, Sociability, and
Sincerity.
➢ An effective teacher should be
committed to his/her work.
➢ She is willing to render extra service
without counting the cost.
➢ The global teacher should be
accountable for high standards.
➢ The global teacher aims for quality
and excellence in carrying out the
teaching-learning process.

So, class those that you shall need to

become a Global Teacher as a future
educator, you must meet and practice the
CHARACTERS and COMPETENCIES of a
Global Teacher.

Do you understand class?

Sir, Yes Sir!

Now to better understand I have an

Illustration here of Schema Characterizing a
Global Teacher.
To end our discussion, according to Thomas
Mckinnon:

“Be a wonderful role model because you will

be the window through which many children
will see their future”

Any Questions or clarifications regarding the

topic?

None, Sir!

That’s good to hear class.

D. Application Since we are done discussing the Global

Teacher. Get your paper and write a short
essay to the following questions:

1. As a future teacher, how will you

apply the Character and Competence
