Practical Activity: Measuring Forces

Apparatus: Force meter, mass hanger with slotted masses, retort stand

Procedure:

 Fix the force meter with retort stand. There is no force pulling its spring, so the reading must be zero.
 Pull on the spring with a force of 1N. On Earth, the weight of a 100g mass is approximately 1N
 Hang another mass from the force meter. The force pulling the spring of the force meter is now 2N
 Repeat this up to 10N.
