1. AVReporter Overview
AVReporter energy management software is a tool that can be used day to day by management and engineers alike. It easily enables the handling of large quantities of data from a variety of otherwise stand alone sources. It is provided with a comprehensive set of data analysis tools and formatting options to allow the user to create just the right view and summary of their data. AVReporter is a great solution for an installation or application of any size that requires a flexible and easy to apply energy management reporting system. Its key features are as follows,
User friendly interface with guided help and online Knowledge Base support On the fly multi-language support and additional language packs are available on request (updates of the language databases is available on the web page www.konsys-international.com) The desktop and web interface are intuitive and user-friendly, and have been designed for the needs of both the engineer and manager. Everyday users will require minimal training. High performance modular structure (support 32 bit and 64 bit environment), designed to be scalable taking advantage of the latest windows operating system and CPU technologies Provided with a comprehensive suite of energy management reporting tools, while remaining open to utilize custom add-on modules that can be downloaded and added at any time. AVReporter can be networked with, data concentrator devices directly, commercial metering systems using serial, Ethernet, or wireless devices, as well as, with databases in commercial HVAC control systems, SCADA systems, DCS systems, ERP systems, etc.
Comprehensive Multi-User and Security Access Level Management, whereby each user has a login name and password, providing access to specific menus and features. Users can be limited to individual buildings, departments or organizational levels.
AVReporter can be installed using a Server-Client solution and/or a web based solution; this combination is used to meet the specific requirements for access to individual sites for International or Multi-site applications.
AVReporter may be installed with Web Publisher to provide each user with a comprehensive suite of web reporting tools without having the complete application installed, while bringing your plant and corporate communities together when discussing energy management topics and objectives.

2. AVReporter Components Overview

2.1 Desktop Manager
Desktop Manager is the core application of AVReporter. It provides an interface to AVReporters reporting and dash boarding module, databases, user settings and management functions.

The Desktop Manager is used to complete the following functions, Configure local language, global formatting for reports using fonts, company logos, corporate colors, etc. Configure user and database security access Configure database connections (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, etc.), data concentrators, devices and metering system connections Configure scheduled tasks (reporting, printing, etc.), email servers and plug-ins (WEBPublisher, etc.) Manage installed modules (Basic Reporter Module, Energy Manager Module, Business-Intelligence Module, etc.) Manage reports and dashboards Manage software licences and product registration
2.2 Basic Reporter Module

Basic Reporter is a software module that makes the preparation of reports trends, tables, charts, histograms and other statements easy and flexible using a template approach with options to add personal formatting elements. In addition to allowing the user to display the data recorded by the power monitoring system, the software also enables the analysis of the data by applying simple mathematical and statistical methods directly to the incoming source data. Thanks to its simple user interface, preparing a report can be done quickly and with minimal training.

2.3 Energy Manager Summary Module
Energy Manager Summary Module is a flexible and easy-to-use energy consumption report creator, for displaying tables or charts on daily, weekly, monthly, annual, etc. energy consumption according to the users requirements. Thanks to the intuitive user interface, report creation and execution can be expedited with little or no formal training.

2.4 Business-Intelligence Module

The Business Intelligence module is a comprehensive and powerful query and calculation engine that permits users (management and engineers) to easily link multiple data sources together to create complex reports and digital dashboards that in the end can be executed quickly and on a scheduled basis, automatically, and delivered to any number of users.
The Business Intelligence Module remains the most powerful and flexible component in the AVReporter architecture. It permits a virtually unlimited number of options regarding data source linking, data analytics, and reporting styles. It can also be configured as a data preprocessing tool so that the resulting dataset can be exported to another application.

Although completely open to define almost any application, here are some of the everyday applications possible using the Business Intelligence Module, Cost Allocation by department, sub-tenant, or process Production KPI's can be created to track and summarize energy performance by manufactured product or production unit Energy Cost Invoicing can be created that may need to comply with local authorities or accounting departments. Custom formatting can be applied for perfect results (e.g. office buildings - invoicing of monthly consumption) Comprehensive Utilities Reporting can be created so that a complete record of all utilities may be tracked and reported, in engineering units, in cost, and by department or process (electric energy, gas, water, sewage, etc.) Flexible networking options that link multiple systems providing easy connections to ODBC compliant databases, CSV files, and other database schemas. Custom plug-ins may be added to the existing set to extend the architecture to other systems and data sources. Flexible custom-tailored solutions according to the requirements of the user supporting specific requirements for language, currency, date format, corporate forms layout, custom data analysis methods, mathematical expressions, Visual Basic scripts usage, etc.

Custom Report and Dashboard Options are virtually endless as may be required for today's long list of energy and eco-efficiency topics corporately or globally. The AVR Connection Center Plug-in is a powerful database linking and management tool. AVReporter Webpublisher equips the user with the capability to create a web portal specifically designed to meet his data visualization and navigation requirements to provide an overall interface that can be accessed and shared with as many users as required to participate in their energy management programs. The tool was designed for ease of use by engineers, managers, and day-to-day users, requiring very little if any support through IT. 3. AVReporter Extension possibilities

3.1 Plug-ins
Plug-ins are small self-contained applications that can be added to AVReporter through its core interface. The idea of Plug-ins was to facilitate the ongoing development and synergy of adding functionality to AVReporter. This could apply to the evolution of features in AVReporter or to meet any ongoing needs to link to other systems. AVReporter automatically recognizes new plug-ins through its plug and play technology, greatly simplifying ongoing support and engineering time. Plug-ins can perform the following functions: Database Driver Plug-ins are used to build connections to other systems. For example, the AVR Connection Center Plug-in is used to build links to TAC, Vijeo Citect, iFIX, RSView, PowerScada, Powerlogic systems, EEM, Siemens Desigo Insight, etc. Specific Systems Plug-ins are used to build connections with ERP systems - SAP, Lotus Notes, National Bank service to obtain currency exchange rates, other WEB services, ActiveX Components, etc. Operating System Plug-ins are used to access services in other operation systems such as Linux, Unix, etc. Device Driver Plug-ins are used to build connections to field devices that store distributed data such as EGX300, or to communication devices such as a wireless controller. 5. AVReporter Database Management

5.1 Data Collection Model
AVReporter has been designed to offer a wide range of options for collecting data from a variety of systems. The Business-Intelligence Module and AVR Connection Center Plug-ins are used together to provide the data source integration and database query creation respectively to collect and process the data specifically required to produce a report or dashboard. Each are outlined below.
The Business Intelligence Module provides a efficient solution for creating and managing links to external data sources (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, Excel file, XML file, CSV file etc.) using ODBC connections. Operations may be performed on the output of these queries and the results can either be displayed as reports immediately or exported.

The AVR Connection Center Plug-in is a powerful and versatile data management tool. It is used to create communication links between different types of otherwise disparate data sources so that specific data can be imported or exported, calculation models can be designed and applied to the data, incoming data can be added, modified, or deleted from database, and data quality checks may be applied, etc. Background execution of these database operations is scheduled by AVR Connection Center (every minute, hour, day etc.) for automated and ongoing surveillance of the active database. These procedures have also been designed for optimal performance so that the integration of many data sources exchanging large amounts of data can be efficiently and reliably integrated and processed into a single active database. This solution makes AVReporter capable of supporting both simple and complex system architectures, across one site, one campus or across a global portfolio.

AVReporter is provided with a Data Importer Driver to link to external applications that are required to write data into (logging) the database of AVReporter, such as a SCADA system or a Visual Basic application (e.g. temperature, gas consumption data, etc.). In this case, we need a utility to write the data directly into the SQL server database of AVReporter. The Data Importer Driver facilitates this using function calls through AVRDataImporter.dll.
Manual Data input to AVReporter can be imported using a previously prepared document, such as through Excel or Text Editor, essentially through a CSV file, typically with the help of a user input form.

5.2 Calculation Models with AVReporter
One of the strongest features of AVReporter is the opportunity to freely perform calculations on different data sources (data stored, read on-the-fly or supplied manually) and specify the destination of the results, whether it be a report, database, or another application capable of importing data. Run-time mathematical calculations can be applied on the fly using the data sources that are open for the query behind a report.

Pre-calculations involving data from multiple sources can be applied during the execution of a report query for cases where unit conversions may be required or where combinations of source data may be applied to a summary efficiency calculations.

Calculated data may be stored in the AVReporter database. This is useful in cases where large amounts of data must be processed in order to satisfy a complex mathematical expression in the report query. As it would require a considerable amount of time to complete the query and open a report, it makes sense to pre-process these calculations using a schedule that runs the query(ies) in the background during non-peak periods. The results can then be posted to the AVReporter
database, ready for quick execution later when the reports will be requested.

Forecasting of data may be configured using regression equations created from historical data and then applied with the knowledge and input of predicted or budgeted driver data such as production units or weather data. The driver data must have been applied in the development in the regression equations in the first place.

Custom calculations can also be configured in AVReporter using scripts over and above the calculation methods outlined above. In this way, AVReporter offers unlimited possibilities for processing the original data into the required KPIs for any business.

6. AVReporter Security Features

AVReporter has a comprehensive Multi-User and Security Access Level Management system that can be enabled to meet a broad range of corporate IT compliance requirements. These include the following,
User Groups User Groups are collections of user accounts that all have the same security rights. If you have an administrator account, you can create custom user groups, move accounts from one group to another, and add or remove accounts from different groups. When you create a custom user group, you can choose which rights to assign. Data and report access can be segmented by user group. User groups can be restricted from seeing data and reports that utilize sources that they would not normally have permission to access. User Accounts User Accounts are members of one group. Each user has a login name, password, list of accessible menus and features.

7. AVReporter Localization
AVReporters multilingual support together with its multi currency ability allows AVReporter to be deployed as a single central global energy management solution while supporting local language and currency at each site. This is ideal for deploying an AVReporter solution in a phased or fiscal scenario, as well as, accommodating multi-cultural teams working with the same data. Note that the language may be changed on the fly. Overall, AVReporter was designed to be a flexible reporting tool that could provide users with their data visualization and reporting needs through presentation-quality reports and dashboards. In addition, it was designed to provide users with the ability to easily export reports to popular formats, such as, Excel, PDF, and XML, and to any user on the network immediately or on scheduled basis.
The tools and user interface required to meet those objectives were met with AVReporter and its suite of add-on tools. By providing instant and easy access to information and minimizing delays to data analysis and reports, AVReporter easily demonstrated its value and indispensability in meeting energy management program objectives. 10. Billing Reports Application

The original purpose of the Business-Intelligence Module was to provide the user with Billing Report functionality, such as, for invoicing or statements of expenses applied to tenants in office buildings, retail suites in shopping centers, individual businesses in industrial parks, separate departments in industrial manufacturing units, etc. This application remains a key application and is requested by many projects.
The objective of the application is to provide cost allocation to individual users or spaces otherwise using energy from a common source, typically from one utility meter The challenge was to provide accurate and localized invoicing or statements to a broad range of users. Also, it was important to have the invoices approved by the local tax authority in each jurisdiction. This is a very typical scenario in a deregulated utility environment, where the landlord is typically treated as a utility by the local commissions.
In some scenarios, the application was required to export a file to the customers existing invoicing system (example: SAP, etc.). The AVR Connection Center met this requirement.
