The narrator, who is a boy has written the letter.
B. Who is it written to?
It is written to his father
C. Why has it been written?
It has been written to answer his father’s letter about
his transgression and he wants his father to be aware of his
thoughts.

2. Do you think the writer is a god student? Which words give


you the answer?
The writer is a good student. The words first rank slip to
second gives me the answer. Because even though his first rank
slipped to second later it made him reflect on his work. It made
him think about his mistakes and he wanted his father to be
aware of his thoughts.

3. Are Pythagoras theorem and newton law of gravity are


important to all of us in our daily lives? Why do you think we all
learn about them?
Pythagoras theorem and newton law of gravity is important.
We all learn about them because if we know about gravity, we
know why things fall when we throw them. These are basic
things we need to know in order to understand difficult topics
later on.
4. What kind of life did the writer’s grandfather lead when he
was a small boy? What was considered important in those
days?
The writer’s grandfather lead a happy and enjoyable life.
Plucking mangos and guavas from their orchards. Picnics on the
banks of the river where the men cooked mouth-watering food,
of playing marbles and gilli danda. From his talk, it seems that
studies were ancillary subject. Living and experiencing, the
major subject.

5. A. What difference does the writer see in his mother’s nature


from his grandmother’s?
The difference the writer sees in his mother’s nature from his
grandmother’s is his mother is highly tensed and nervous while
on the other hand his grandmother is carefree and happy about
her pans and pots of flowers.

B. He thinks the reason for this difference between his mother


and grandmother is because his mother is highly qualified, and
his grandmother is a semi illiterate which specifies the level of
literacy and the reason for the difference in their nature.

1. What does the writer think is wrong in his education? What
does he really want to learn about?
The writer thinks it is wrong to learn about hypotenuse and
relational square roots because he cannot apply that
knowledge in his real life, when he asked his biology teacher
how to take care of his rose plants, She was cross she said go
and ask the gardener who keeps gardening things. So he would
rather want to learn how to take care of his rose plants to keep
them healthy, how to repair a bulb, and how to use carpenter’s
tools to make a desk for himself, he would want to learn about
things which he could apply in his real life.

2. I think wisdom comes as a result of studying hard and living a


full life. The writer thinks wisdom comes as a result of living a
full life.

3. A. By how many marks did he loose in his first position?


He lost his first position in quarter marks.
B. Why did he lose the mark?
He lost the mark in a matter of grammar in the fill in the blanks.
C. The teacher was right because the student made a
grammatical mistake. He wrote I held that I was invited to tea
and my teacher was adamant that he was invited for tea. The
teacher was correct because to is used when we talk about a
verb and for is used when we talk about a noun.

Overall questions
1. A. What does the writer think is wrong with the method of
evaluation of papers?
The writer has to write the exact answer that his teacher
expects on the answer paper, so if he writes anything other
than what the teacher expects he won’t get marks. This is what
the writer thinks is wrong of the evaluation of papers.
B. Is he right?
He is right because the student must be given marks only if he
writes the correct answer.

C. Should he try to get more marks, or should he make sure


that his knowledge is accurate? What do you think?
I think he should make sure that his knowledge is accurate
because he should know what he is learning to write the
correct answer and he will definitely get marks.

2. A. Will the boy’s father ever get this letter?


No, the boy’s father will not receive the letter.
B. Ps your eyes will not see this anguished plea. These are the
words that give me the answer.

C. Why did Rahul write the letter?


Rahul wrote the letter as a response to his father’s question
why his first rank slipped to second and to lighten up his
overburdened heart.
3. What kind of letter did the father write to his son? do you
think he did the right thing? Give reasons for your answer.
The father wrote a very serious letter to his son he also wrote
about the advice think before answering the papers. I think he
did the right thing because the father might have been upset
that his son’s first rank slipped to the second over a simple
grammatical error.

4. what kind of education does the writer think is useful? Do


you agree?
The writer thinks taking care of the rose plants, knowing how to
fix a bulb and how to make a desk for himself using his
carpenter’s tools instead of learning about hypotenus and
realational squre roots because that knowledge is not useful in
his real life. He wanted to learn something that could be used in
his real life and that would be more useful.

5. I. Imagine Rahul ultimately sends the letter to his father.


When his father receives the letter, he is deeply touched by it.
What changes do you think occur in his attitude towards
education?
When his father receives the letter, he would try to teach his
son the topics that he could apply his knowledge in real life. He
would also allow to experience things in life and not only learn
from school.
II. Rahul wrote the letter to his father to express his hurt and
anguish. The letter was never meant to be posted to his father
but was a method to deal with his hurt feeling. How would you
deal with your feelings when you are in hurt or pain?
I would deal with my feelings by listening to music and if the
matter involves another person I will talk to the person I am
angry with and settle the matter. Because even though I stop
talking to the person all together some day or the other I would
need that person’s help. So, it is better to talk to the person I
am angry with and the settle the matter.
