THE DAY THE EARTH SHOOK

A few weeks have passed since the earthquake and little by little we are
recovering calm. Unfortunately, when it happened, I was at school, along with my
classmates and Luis, my teacher. Suddenly everything started to shake. The chairs
and tables moved, the paintings fell to the ground... - Luis: boys and girls, it's the
tremor of an earthquake, move away from the windows and get under the tables!
It was a few seconds of shaking, but it seemed like an eternity! We all got very
scared and I was still shocked and when it was over, we timidly came out from
under the tables. - Ana: it was a big earthquake! - Luis: yes, it has been. Now we
are all going to leave the class in a line,I was out of breath slowly and we will go to
the patio where we will meet with the rest of the school. From the outside, we
saw how the earthquake had destroyed many things. The walls of our school, the
lampposts, the benches, etc... The tremor had caused a lot of damage around us.
It was the worst experience in my whole life it terrified me. We all looked at each
other in awe, while Luis explained to us that the earth had trembled, it was a
natural catastrophe, reminding us of what we had already studied. Our town was
near a fault, a fracture in the ground along which the two blocks of earth slide.
For me and my colleagues it was the first time we lived this experience, but Luis,
our parents and grandparents, had already suffered it on other occasions. They
say that one of them was so strong that it opened the ground at his feet. These
days we don't have school and our houses are makeshift tents. We all live here
together, very close to each other. It is a very positive experience in which we
help and reinforce each other with words and affection. We thank all the people,
associations, emergency teams, etc... all of them, for their cooperation, help and
dedication in the work of rebuilding our town, for their efforts to recover our lives
again. Thank you!
