1. Knowledge in watchkeeping with ECDIS

When it comes to watchkeeping on the bridge, another advantage is that navigators can set alarms
and parameters on the screen. This will improve your awareness of nautical risks. ARPA, AIS, and Radar
can be layered on top of her ENC, so all information is on her one screen. This means officers can use
on-screen visualizations to navigate the ship.

2. Knowledge in ECDIS route planning and monitoring

Officers who are entitled to do its part on the job of route planning and monitoring should have of
course should have the proper training and certification in regards to this. This should be taken a step
since making a route is the starting point in every vessel to be safe from its destination.

3. Knowledge in ECDIS targets, charts, and system

In ECDIS targets, charts and systems, nevertheless, ECDIS and ENC have helped reduce the
number in running aground. In the past, misreading paper charts has led to landings. Ships can go off
course, water depths can change without notice, and ships can land. But ECDIS is used properly.

4. Knowledge in ECDIS responsibility and skills of effective navigation with ECDIS

Having a thoroughly and effective navigation with ECDIS, its implementation and use of ECDIS
reduced navigational risks. If ECDIS is used correctly and all alarms are properly set, collisions and
collisions of vessels can be avoided. Safety also improves when navigators regularly rely on other
navigational aids, such as radar, and look out of bridge windows to maintain situational awareness.
Comprehensive training of the bridge team in handling ECDIS and other systems is also an important
part of safe navigation.

5. Will ECDIS be helpful in your endeavor as a future OIC-NW someday?

Of course, as we get along together with the advance technology advancement we have today,
also with the update of installation of new equipment on the vessel that could easily track what needs
to be acquired and to be look at all times as duty of being an officer or having the proper watchkeeping.
OIC-NW is a very important job and also a complicated one but nevertheless, as you try to learn and
knowledge towards it, hopefully everyone cannot deny how important ECDIS really is.
