1. Explain what is passage appraisal?

The passage plan aims to develop a comprehensive berth-to-berth voyage plan to ensure safe
voyage and determines the route to be followed.

2. Explain what is a no-go-area?

No-go zones help ships steer clear of dangerous waters and important marine habitat.
These waters are officially called “Areas to be Avoided”.

4. Explain what is margins of safety and safe water?

The edge of a water hazard is a spray line that encircles the body of water and marks
where the hazard "starts". Anything between this line and the water itself is usually considered
dangerous. There is usually about 1-2 feet of buffer between the water and the danger line.
Hazard rules apply to everything between this line and the water. However, it becomes difficult
when playing a ball in a water hazard.

5. Explain what is UKC and its importance?

Under keel clearance is a vertical distance between the deepest underwater point of the
ship’s hull and the water area bottom or ground. That clearance should be sufficient to allow
ship’s floatability in most unfavourable hydrological and meteorological conditions. Its
importance is to Maintain a safe vertical distance between your ships hull and the ocean floor
keeps the keel clear of the seabed and reduces the chances of running aground.
