Have you heard a folk song? It is a music genre that expresses one’s tradition
and culture, it is usually sang in the language where it was written, an example of this is
Salidumay.
Salidumay is a folk song that originated from Cordillera, it is fast and rhythmic.
Salidumay is a lullaby chant among the natives of the Cordillera mountains, specifically
Kalinga tribe. I chose this folk song because I like the tone and it is fun to listen.
In the song Salidumay, the singer comforts a young girl or as they call it
“neneng”, I think the singer feels happy and exited because he/she is coming home to
see and comfort “neneng”. I think that the song thought me to have patience and be
happy all the time.
I think that the songwriter has the responsibility to make a positive change by
using their platform, because they can use this to promote and give knowledge to others
about their traditions, beliefs, and culture
