What is air pollution?

Air pollution is the presence or introduction of harmful or poisonous substances that affects the
atmosphere.

Describe two ways in which air pollution harms (humans and plants).

Air pollution can harm humans by breathing in polluted air that puts you at a higher risk for asthma and
other respiratory diseases. Polluted air can cause loss of lives.

The toxic chemicals released into the air settle into plants and sources. Animals eat the contaminated
plants and drink the water.the poison then travels up the food chain…..to humans

Air pollution can harm plants when acidic air pollution combined with water droplets in clouds. The
water becomes acidic. Acid rain can destroy leaves and plants.
List four different sources of air pollution.

1) Mobile sources-such as cars, buses, planes, trucks and trains.

2) Stationary sources-as power, plants, oil, refineries industrial fancies and factories.

3) Areas sources such agricultural areas, cities and wood burning fireplaces.

4) Natural sources-such as wind-blown dust, wildfires and volcanoes.

explain five steps that can be taken to reduce air pollution

Using green energy like solar panels, electric vehicle

Avoid burning leaves, trash and other materials

Avoid or reduce the use fossil fuel, eg. carpooling

Avoid excessive idling of your automobile.

Advocate for emission and reductions from power plants and more stringent national vehicle emission
standards.
