Species diversity is defined as the number of different species present in an ecosystem

and relative abundance of each of those species,and is calculated using the formula:

N (N −1)
D=
Σ n( n−1)

Where N=Total number of individuals(Population)

n=Total number of individuals of a species

Σ =”Sum of”

The lower the value obtained from the formula,the more diverse an environment is said

to be,and is also seen as a sign of a healthy environment.As with all cycles/natural

occurrences,Humans can affect this in many ways,either positively or negatively.In

Trinidad,species diversity is most commonly negatively affected due to

deforestation,which happens due to need for more housing,factories etc being needed

because of the growing population meaning more mouths to food,more houses to build

and more energy being used.There are many ways humans affect species diversity

negatively,but a way they positively affect it is by protection of endangered species and

allowing them to mate.
