Personal Philosophy about Inclusive Classrooms Assignment

Teachers should be required to provide educational experiences in the least restrictive

environments whenever it is possible. When students are taken away from the mainstream

educational experience and placed in a restrictive environment, the learning outcomes could be

severely diminished because students simply won’t be exposed to the same level of content as

the students in the regular classes.

Students who are disabled or have special needs are never responsible for their

condition. However, how we treat that condition and how the student chooses to embrace that

disability can be controlled to a certain extent and can make a huge difference in a student’s

learning outcome.

Though it can be challenging to work with students with special needs it can be very

motivating to work with them especially if I were to be able to help them overcome some of their

obstacles. I feel that I would be capable of working with these students if I were to be provided

with the help of a professional who can better explain the accommodations that are best suited

for each student.

I believe that everyone regardless of physical disabilities, backgrounds, or any other

external factor deserves the opportunity to receive a quality education. This is especially true for

a learner with special needs because it is a teacher’s job to prepare them like anyone else for

their futures.

As a teacher with only a few years of experience, co-teaching would be ideal because it

would give me the opportunity to put what I learned in school into practice while having the input
from another teacher. I am very aware that I am not a perfect teacher therefore I always

welcome input from a co-worker without issues related to an overactive ego.

No student should ever be excluded in the classroom unless there are circumstances

that a student’s presence puts other students at risk for physical harm. If that is the case, then

everything possible should be done to work to integrate that student into the classroom.

There is a massively complex relationship between special needs, gender, cultural

background, and socioeconomic conditions that makes the learning environment more

challenging. Life is not easy and we need to recognize that most if not all of our students are

being influenced by one or many negative influences outside or inside the classroom. It is our

jobs as educators to try to help our students to find ways to cope with these issues whenever

possible or to connect them to someone in the school who can.

They say that it takes a village to raise a child. This is true for students with or without

special needs. When there is strong collaboration between the school and the household the

quality of instruction would increase for any child.

In general, I am very motivated to teach my students and to find new and unique ways to

help them understand something new. However, I feel that I need more training and experience

to be able to teach students with special needs effectively. If given the proper resources, tools,

and mentors, I would feel confident working with any type of student.
