My Classroom Management plan

Classroom management goes beyond the written rules and consequences. It needs to

be guided by a mutual agreement between the students and the teacher that benefits all

stakeholders. I expect my students to show respect for their peers, for me, and above all for

themselves. These are values that will be useful to them not only in school but in the effort of

constructing a more fair society.

Before the beginning of each school year I will need to inform myself of the challenges

that my students faced in the past year. This information can be used to better design the rest of

the course. I can get this information by looking through school databases along with meetings

with the teachers that worked with them during the past year.

It’s important to have a classroom motto that reflects the core values of the classroom.

My core values are related to respect for everyone including individual respect. That’s why my

motto is, “Respect yourself and others will respect you.”

Each classroom will create their own rules. My three unmoveable rules are respect,

integrity, and fraternity. These rules will act as categories and the students will create the

subcategories, i.e. more specific rules related to these main rules. Students will also decide the

consequences for breaking these rules and will sign a contract written by the class at the

beginning of the year.

Being that I plan to use a significant amount of student input in everything that is done in

the classroom, students should be motivated intrinsically to complete the tasks because they

had part in the creation of materials.

The routine that I use in the classroom is quite a simple model. I do, we do, and you do. I

follow a project based learning model where most of the classroom time is dedicated to group
work where students will be able to work together to create a product. In my classroom students

are going to work a lot on projects together. This is not only so they are successful in learning

English but also so they are prepared to work in a society where collaboration is becoming an

increasingly demanding skill. The beauty of project based learning is that students of all levels

and abilities are able to contribute positively to the product. Much of my evaluation is focused on

a students ability to give input and receive input while respecting their classmates.
