AIR CONDITIONING -- INTRODUCTION -600/900

1) Air conditioning controls interior environment of cabin for crew, passengers,


equipment
2) Air condition subsystems are cooling, distribution, temperature control, equipment
cooling heating.
3) Cockpit panels which cont air cond, Air conditioning/bleed air controls panel- Cabin temperature
panel- Equipment cooling panel.
4) Pack zone temp controller (E/E) cont., pack cooling temp, trim air, bite to inlet smart
ram air door actuator
5) Air cond accessory unit interface for the aircraft operational logic and air sys
6) Cabin temperature panel Control cabin temperature control- Forward and aft cabin temperature
control- Trim air switch- Temperature indication and selection- Duct overheat indication.
7) Zone temp lT comes on when duct temp is 190F or have fault.
8) Air conditioning/bleed air controls panel: - Ram air inlet door indication- Recirculation fans
switches- Cooling pack switches- Pack overheat and fault indication-pack rest.
9) Pack LT comes on when pack overheat or pack fault.
10) Blue ram full open door LT should be on at GND or climb, Off at cruise with door full
not open.
11) Equipment cooling panel: - Supply and exhaust fans switches- No cooling indication.
12) 4 fans (2 supply and 2 exhaust) 2 off LT, on supply fan SW norm pos, if off LT comes
on low flow is detected and fan not working put sw to alt supply fan LT goes off, LT
also comes on when at low flow detector startup bit fails
13) A/c is is A/c compt RHS and LHS of keel beam in wing to body fairing
14) Distribution compt in fwd cargo aft bulkhead
15) FCSOV cont fresh air that goes to cabin, quantity req for ventilation is more than req
in pressurization,
16) Ventilation req for ventilation fixed depends upon, crew, cabin leakage, no of seat.
17) Pack sys req remove mositer and cont temp to dist comntpt, both packs give same
output temp, output temp set acc to zone req coldest temp, cont by PZTC
18) Aircraft with 3 temp zone are, cockpit, fwd pax compt and aft pax compt
19) Zone temp cont dec temp coming out of pack to zone includes trim air prsov(trim air
SW), zone trim air modulating vlv and temp sensor
20) Trim air prsov(press/flow)> zone modulating vlv
21) Temp selector (cabin temp pnl) for each zone, PTZC calculate selector pos for
heating specific zone, modulating vlv add heat for zone
22) Temp sensor and ov heat SW ,cont temp and ov protection, temp bulb supply
indication to pnl
23) Recirculation sys uses 50 % of cabin air for ventilation reduces bleed req for fresh air
24) Ozone converter converts 03 to 02 to keep ozone level low in cabin b/w LHS
pneumatic duct and FcSov before packs, cyclinder chamber contain catalylic material
breaks O# to 02 by chemical reaction.
25) Pack cooling sys cont flow, remove heat and moister cont output temp
26) FCSOV>primary>comp>secondary>reheater>condenser>water
extractor>reheater>turbine>mixmuff> chkvlv> dist compt
27) Mix manifold temp sensor and overheat sw in dist compt, ACAU and PZTC in EE
compt, ram air sys in wing to body fairing
28) FCSOV cont hot bleed to pri EXCH,temp cont vlv x2, trim air, turbine case.
29) Ram air sys common for pri , secondary EXCH and NGS exch
30) Ram air comp are :PZTC, ram air temp sensor,inlet sarda/mod pnl/def door, exit
SRDA/lovers, impellerfan and bypass chk vlv
31) PZTC send BITE initialization signal to fwd sarda
32) Bleed goes via FCSOV to primary exchanger(as temp needs to be down before
entering it into compressor) compressor may damage from direct hot bleed if no pri
EXCH in design, ram air sys cont( PZTC modulate PNL) and passing air to exchangers
to keep comp discharge temp keep it upto 110c.
33) From compressor air is compresses the partial cooled air/pri exch output (vol dec
and press inc with temp again hot compressed air is send to secondary EXCH to cool
then entered to hot side of reheater (cooled when entered first time VIA condenser
output) get hot the second time via reheaters compressor output to turbine to get
air expansion ( vol inc and temp and pressure dec) the air was initially compressed
so that turbine able to un-compress it (decreasing temp to freezing).
34) Turbine outlet (cold side) surround the condenser so that water vapor in air can turn
in to water 2 condenser outlet contains water extractors with nozzle to ram
duct(goes to exchanger inlet) then to reheater.
35) A little output goes out of condenser to prevent core icing as a sense towards stby
temp vlv providing hot air to core via deicing passage connect/ cont by stby vlv, a
tapping from comp outlet before SW goes for condenser case. A tapping from
reheater outlet just before turbine is tapped for mix muff at cold air inlet. Also STBY
senses condenser ice and send hot bleed to mix muff for ice removal
36) PZTC cont TCV by getting sense via pack temp sensor to dec and maint by mixing hot
air into mix muff in pack discharge pack output as per demand set in cockpit
37) Pack trips auto on overheat cond, the overheat components are - Compressor discharge
overheat switch 390F (199C)- Turbine inlet overheat switch 210F (99C)- Pack discharge overheat
switch 250F (121C).
38) Push trip reset after overheat cond cools, overheat causes pack amber LT and FCSOV to close.
39) FCSOV control and adusjt the airflow to packs in A/c compt, spring loaded close electrically cont
pneumatic act with 3 flow mode : low, high, high/apu
40) Solenoid cont the operation of vlv solenoid C open/close vlv as well as manual open/close solenoid,
solenoid B cont low and high flow, solenoid A apu/high flow
41) Actuator moves butterfly vlv,cabin press sense line attach to sense pressure change, venturi is part of
mech cont airflow via vlv, indicator show vlv pos
42) Pack SW off 28v energizes solenoid C moves ball vlv prevent air press to actuator to
open vlv, pack SW auto/high sol C get pow in open coil air goes to act opening vlv
against spring, press goes to static and total press sense port which balances
opening press for auto and high servos, pots permit the measure of diff press in
venture
43) Solenoid B changes flow mode between high and normal ,energizes when pack sw
auto let airflow to auto servo(normal mode) which sense cabin press via port and
maint norm flow mode rate 75pound per min
44) In Pack sw high pos solenoid B de energizes act air goes to apu/high flow servo
where air goes to high floe servo forcing more air to vlv actto open more inc air flow
to105 ppm
45) Incruise if one fack SW off or overheat cond sol B deenergizes and other remaining
pack goes to high flow mode
46) Apu high flow mode energies the sol A apu/high flow servo have one extra piston
than high flow making att vlv more open to 131 ppm
47) Primary heat exchanger remove heat via two isolated flow passes 1 around plate fin
channel walls 1 inside the transfer heat, ram air carried away the bleed heat via exit
lovers ,its plate fin cross flow type
48) Primary difuser(inner duct) with fan bypass chk vlv (hinged door), plenum (outer
duct)
49) On GND impeller fan suck air via ram air inlet for
exchanger>plenum(outerduct)>impeller fan>diffuser>exit louvers. This keeps chk vlv
close via air pressure ram air door not full open
50) In flight ram air door full open air and press goes directly in diffuser chk vlv to exch
via plenum.
51) Ram air door open lt is on when exch cooling surface is dirty or contaminated,
plenum have access panel for cleaning
52) Srada cont inlet ram air flow into ducts, modulating exit louvers cont air going out
both have own act one is fwd duct(glass fiber) other is aft duct(Kevlar)
53) Ram air inlet FWD section>flex slevee >aft duct section(clean out
panel)>exchanger>plenum/diffuser> ram air exit duct> flex con>exit louvers
