Ain’t I a Woman?

•1) Sojourner Truth makes many references to religion in her speech. Why do you think she does this?
Is it effective?

She makes the references to religion in her speech so that people can relate to her more and take her
side on the argument. In the previous speech, a religious reference was used to justify the argument that
woman should not have the right to vote and because of this she also uses religion to refute the argument.
By doing this she prevents further arguments using religion as a reference to be made against her speech.
It is effective because it helps convince more people of her argument. It shows why the person that
made the previous argument is wrong and covers all the important points that would make an impact.

•2) Write a summary of her argument for giving women the right to vote.

Sojourner begins by asserting that she embodies women’s rights. She is as strong and hard-working as
any man. She is someone who has performed all types of back-breaking physical tasks. We can also see
Sojourner’s downplaying of women intelligence is it implies that, because they have modest intellect
compared with men, women will be modest in their ambitions, too. Sojourner argues that, if women
were responsible for introducing chaos into the world, women should be given a chance to right the
world’s wrongs.

•3) Write an essay to persuade an audience that a group of people who do not have a right to do
something should be allowed to have that right.

We deserve the right to kill

The action of hurting or harming someone in return for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands,
revenge. Although our parents have taught us revenge is not good, it is. In this world full of evil, people
do harm, and they don’t receive a consequence regarding their actions. Life is just about balance; we
can see it around us. Newton stated in his third law of motion, that for every action in nature there is an
equal and opposite reaction. For example, a man in a boat pushes the water with an amount of force that
he prints on the paddles; the water reacts by pushing in the opposite direction, which results in the
advance on the surface of the liquid. Murdering someone who murdered someone is science, every
action has a reaction and the people who did harm in the first place have to get what they deserve.
Killing is not bad, it is just not accepted by society. Sometimes God is not the only one who should
decide if people should die or not. We must protect our loves ones as well from bad people and if killing
someone is the only way and solution, we must do. Death penalty is allowed, but we can't kill when we
think is well deserved. Death penalty is murdering too, but it is okay because it is the reaction of the
criminals' actions and society has accepted it. Every person must deserve the right to kill. To kill is to
put an end to or cause the failure or defeat of (something), people can put an end to terrible actions
others are committing and not just wait until someday the justice will appear. We deserve the right to
kill, and we must fight for it.
