STEPS:

Step 1: Open UNISIM software and go to file. After opening a new case a new simulation
manager window is obtained which contains components selection, fluid packages,
hypotheticals and etc.

Step 2: Click on add and tap on components in which the components should be added.
Select propane and I-butane from the component list and add them as pure components.

Step 3: Go to fluid packages and click on add and select EOS and then click on Peng
Robinson equation of state. Then click on enter simulation environment.

Step 4: Select the distillation columns from the case pallete.

Step 5: Double click the distillation column and name the distillation column as “prop-but”
and name the inlet streams and the bottoms and the reboiler streams.

Step 6: Then add the condenser and the reboiler pressure with the condition that the reboiler
pressure is greater than the condenser pressure. And then enter the reflux ratio and the liquid
rate.

Step 7: Then go to the worksheet and open conditions and enter all the provided data. And
click on the compositions. And normalize them.

Step 8: All the streams are converged and okay appears in green colour and then return to
simulation environment.

Step 9: In simulation environment right click on each stream and generate the tables and
click on required properties the table looks like this.

Step10: Click ‘’Ctrl+R’’ and generate the report by inserting the datasheet and adding the
required streams.

SIMULATED RESULT:

The distillation column has been simulated using UNISIM software.

The bottom molar flow found to be the composition of propane and i-butane in the distillate
were found to be 0.9 and 0.1.
The composition of propane and i-butane in bottom were found to be 0.66650 and 0.93330
respectively.
