"Lupang Hinirang” a poem written by Jose Palma, became our Philippine National Anthem. As a
Filipino citizen, you’ve heard and sang it a lot of times already. Scrutinize the anthem from the
beginning down to its last line. Narrow down its message to the Filipinos according to your
understanding and write it below.

Our National Anthem is not just joyful, but romantic. The original talks about our being a land
of the sun, and of loves (yes, plural). The Filipino versions use “pagsinta” to love.

There seems to be a deliberate choice of pagsinta, rather than pagmamahal. Mahal is more
generic, of lovers as well as all the other significant others in our lives, parents, teachers.
Pagsinta is more intimate , and intriguing choice.

In daily conversations, love of country translates as “pagmamahal sa bayan.” We would never

say, even in theater, O Bayan, O Sinta! But then, why shouldn’t we? It might help us to move
from empty rhetoric and mindless singing of “Lupang Hinirang” to a deeper love of country of
fellow Filipino that emphasizes, especially for leaders, serving others.

Love, Joy, Compassion. These are words we avoid in scholarly articles and exchanges. Too
emotional, I was told when I was studying. Yet when scholars comment on other people’s work,
in journals or through Facebook, there is no lack of emotions including the various ones.

As a creature that’s been given the gift of being able to hear, you’re surrounded with a myriad of
sounds every day. What do you hear the most? What do you like to listen to? How do the things
you hear, day by the day, affect you?

 As a creature that’s been given gift of being able to hear, I surrounded with a myriad of
sounds every day. The most I heard us the music that played by our neighborhood and the
sound of motorcycle, cars and voice of the rooster and chicken. For me, the sound I like
to heard is the worship songs its complete my day mood and also the sounds of rooster
and chicken it’s give me vibes that theirs hope upon the problem we have new morning
new hopes. So when it comes I heard that, these variety of sounds it also affect my mood
for an instance when I heard every person that using their motor and sounds when it so
loud I don’t know why I get imitated and I felt like to hurt him because he is over acting
to use his motor so my perfect day will bored.

How do you listen to get the gist of what you hear? Do you keep your focus every time someone
is talking to you? Or do you only listen attentively during the teacher’s lecture or if it’s
something you want to hear? How often do you remember what you listen to?

I give my full attention and focus so that I get the gist of what I heard. Yes, especially our topic
is all about love and crushes. Yes, but not entire subject especially in our math subject before I
felt bored. For me it depends upon the situation for n instance I need to remember this because
tomorrow is our exam.
 LISTEN, REMEMBER and INTERPRET

Directions: Your teacher will give you a call and tell you a quotation and a line from the lyrics of
a song. You to remember both of those since you will have to tell: what you see in connection to,
what you think about and what you feel about those.

 I felt happy because this one of my favorite music by Boys Avenue. In general we can’t
hide the truth.
