CHAPTER 11: VARIOUS GENRES IN MUSIC

ACTIVITY 1: MUSIC ANALYSIS

1. What did you like about the song’s word? What were your favourite parts? Why? (critical
thinking)
Song 1:
What I like about the song is the way it was composed and I was amazed by it. My favourite part
was the chorus of the song because it is where the essence of the message of the song lies.
Song 2:
What I like about the second song was the message that the songwriter wants to convey. The first
stanza of this song gives chills to me and I can relate about it this is why it is my favourite part of
the song.
2. Are the song’s words like the words to any other song that you know? How are they similar or
different? (connections)
Song 1:
Other song’s words are similar to the song but some others don’t. It is because this song has a
certain purpose and message that is similar to the other song. Because of these message and
purpose, the right words were used to convey the essence of the song like the other songs.
Song 2:
Like the first song, words used in this song are somehow similar and different from any other
song. The second song’s words are similar to others in a sense that it has similar message hidden
in the words that were used to compose it.
3. Is there anything in the song that reminds you of something in your life? (personalization)
Song 1:
The song is all about a parent raising his child and it reminds me of how my parents raised me. It
reminds me of being thankful to my parents for shaping me for what, and who am I today.
Song 2:
The second song on the other hand is all about the sacrifices of parents for their children and I
must say that I can relate to the song because of so much sacrifice my parents have done for me
to grow as I am today.
4. Do you find any words or sentences interesting? Confusing? Unusual? (style)
Song 1:
Yes, words used in the song have deep meanings especially those words that have unpleasant
meaning. I think this is the way of the songwriter not to directly say the word so that listeners
will not get affected by the words.
Song 2:
Like the first song, there are also unusual words used in the sentence. These words have also
deep meanings and I supposed that these words are used for the beautification of the song.
5. Did the songwriter include images that you find funny? Scary? Old-fashioned? Embarrassing? (evaluation)
Song 1:
No, because if the songwriter includes images such these, the real essence and the message of the
song will not fit the images.
Song 2:
The songwriter did not also include images such those that are mentioned above. Instead, the
songwriter used images that will complement the words used in the song.
6. What senses does the songwriter use in this song? Sight? Smell? Hearing? Taste? Touch? (style)
Song 1:
A lyric of a song is made on the basis of experience or observation. I guess the songwriter used
sense of sight because the lyrics were all about how a parent raised his child. Without mere
observation of the process of how the parent raised his child, the songwriter will not be able to
compose a song.
Song 2:
Like the first song, the songwriter also used his sense of sight because like the first song, the
composer cannot make a lyric without his observation.
7. Why do you think the songwriter wrote this song? (inference)
Song 1:
I must say that the songwriter wrote this song for the people, especially children and teenagers,
to understand that the sacrifices of parents were made out of their love for their children. The
songwriter, I guess, wants to convey a message to the children on behalf of their parents.
Song 2:
I think the song writer wrote this song as an eye opener for the teenagers. The message of the
song is too deep which was really intended for them and I guess the composer wrote this to show
teenagers a lesson they can bring as they journey life.
8. What is the song about? (theme)
Song 1:
The song is all about the hardships of parents in raising their children. It includes the possible
ways a parent can do for them and their unending love for their children despite of what their
children have become.
Song 2:
The second song is about the sacrifices of parents for their children and also about the possible path a
child may journey. It is about how parents guided their children of their chosen path and still accepts them
no matter they succeed of failed with their journey.
