Musical Autobiography Project

Outline

The first step of this project was a pre-writing activity where you thought about the importance of different music
in your life, why it’s meaningful or special to you and about specific songs that have special memories for you.
The next step is to decide which of those stories will be appropriate to turn into written personal narratives and
an oral presentation where you tell about the stories behind why these songs are special to you. Use the following
questions to help you.

What songs and stories that you thought about in the pre-writing exercise are particularly good stories that you
might like to spend time writing about and share with the class?

Why are those stories the most interesting or meaningful ones to you?
R// These stories are important because they identify a time when I was able to connect with my family.

Which two are the best stories that you can use for this project? Please keep in mind the topics that are
prohibited for this project.
1. The first story is related to the moment where I began to connect with Pop.
2. The second shows the moment where thanks to Pop I was able to improve my relationship with my sister.

Explore these two stories in more depth using the questions below to start forming your ideas for the project.
STORY #1

1. What is the song that is connected to this story? who performs or performed it?
The story is not related to a specific song.
2. What is the connection between the song and the story? Why is that significant?
It was not a specific song but, I remember that in history the most listened to songs were by Luis Fonsi, Juan
Luis Guerra and Sin Banderas.
3. When did the story take place? How old were you?
The story happened a couple of years ago when I was entering adolescence. it was between my 12 and 15 years
4. 4. What happened in the story and how did you feel? List the events and your feelings. Add more if you
need to.
a) When I was between 12 and 15 years old, I used to spend a lot of time at my godmother's house. She
was a fan of Pop and when she was at home, she usually listened to songs of that genre.
I felt…
b) Over time, I started to like the songs, so I began to learn to read them.
I felt connected with my family
c) Later, I started looking for more songs and more artists of the genre
I felt…
d) Finally, when she was already in love with those songs, she began to unload them and listen to an
Ipop that I had.
I felt happy, because I had found something that I really liked and because it was something to share with
my cousin - godmother.

5. What aspect of the song was meaningful or got your attention, the music, the rhythm, the lyrics, or
something else? How can you describe that meaningful aspect of the song?
The aspect of the songs that most caught my attention and is the rhythm. Later, if I liked the rhythm, I would start
listening to the lyrics.
6. How did the song make you feel at the time that you heard in in the story? How does that same song
make you feel now when you listen to it?
7. How do you want to introduce the story to the reader?
I want to present the story as part of my introduction because, right in this story I met and connected with Pop.
8. What emotions do you want the reader to feel? How can you achieve that in your storytelling?
I want the reader to feel happiness, melancholy, love, joy and maybe a little sadness because that is what I feel
with most of the songs of the genre. I think I can do it by being very specific when describing my feelings,
perhaps so I can transfer them to the reader.
