PROBLEM STATEMENTS
MENTAL HEALTH
Post the pandemic we have realized the importance of Mental health and how crucial
it is for one’s productivity and overall well-being. Mindfulness practices which were
once considered to be an act of spirituality & Godliness are becoming a powerful tool
for Mental wellbeing. Issues like work-life balance, Postpartum depression have
caught attention of mainstream media and are being openly discussed without any
hesitation. Globally suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth (1 5-29
years of age). Yes, it’s not cancer or heart attack that’s killing our vibrant youth. We
can change this through collective resolve. We need to come up with solutions that
will save our youth from this catastrophe.

STROKE
Globally, over 1 00 million people are affected by Stroke leaving them functionally
disabled for the vast majority of their lives. It is the leading cause of disability and
second leading cause of death Worldwide. Its burden is only increasing year-on-year,
particularly in the low and middle countries where the care facilities providing
intervention are destitute, leaving us concerned. Devices and apps that assist stroke
patients in their recovery is the need of the hour. We need to come up with products
that diagnose, prevent and manage stroke in the remotest of the places with
minimum resources and most importantly, cost effectively.

GLOBAL NEUROSURGERY
Neurological diseases make up an important part of the global burden of diseases.
Worldwide, neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability adjusted life years
lost and the second leading cause of death. Despite global health capacity building efforts,
each year, 22.6 million individuals worldwide require neurosurgeon’s care due to diseases
such as traumatic brain injury and hydrocephalus, and 13.8 million of these individuals
require surgery. It is clear that neurosurgical care is indispensable in both national and
international public health discussions. Global Neurosurgery aims to close on this gap
between public health and state of-the-art neurosurgical care. We can achieve this through
innovative solutions that can bring neurosurgical intervention close to the middle- and low-
income groups.
