PROFILE
Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed is an eminent academician and an
astute leader, who is well known among the people of Maldives and
the world. He was Advisor to the Secretary General of Organization
of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and in-charge director of The Voice of
Wisdom Centre, OIC. On 22 August 2016 Dr. Shaheem was
appointed as the Chancellor and the Acting Vice Chancellor of the
Islamic University of Maldives (IUM). Prior to this he was serving
as the Vice Chancellors of IUM since its establishment in July 2015.
Moreover, he was elected by the Progressive Party of Maldives

Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed was appointed as the Minister of Republic of Maldives
Islamic Affairs of the Republic of Maldives during HEP Dr.
Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s administration and also HEP Nationality: Maldivian
Abdulla Yaameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration. Dr. Shaheem NID No: -
has been the driving force behind the setting up of Maldives Hajj
Corporation. He has actively worked to setup the only full-fledged
Islamic bank in Maldives,

Maldives Islamic Bank Pvt Ltd. His initiatives have led to the
creation of modern Islamic funds such as Waqf Fund.

2010 and 2011 by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, Jordan

Dr. Shaheem sits in various religious councils including the Shari’ah
Advisory Council of the Central Bank of the Maldives, which is the
apex Shari’ah body advising Islamic banking related matters. He has

Arabia, Sri-Lanka, Malaysia, United States, UK, Libya, Azerbaijan
and Bangladesh.

Dr. Shaheem has established the National Strategy of Counter-

Terrorism in Maldives, and founded the Ex-terrorist
Rehabilitation Programs.
