Dear, Dr.

Jose Rizal

I’ve been in this chaotic world in my 19 years of existence, it was just a month
ago that I’ve know about your life. Since the world is changing slowly, most people my
age may not remember that December 30 is known as the day you say goodbye. I'm
writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for everything you've done for us. I've
never met you, but I feel like I have known you a lot. We Filipinos appreciate
everything you've done for our country. Because you are one in a million, the best man
the Philippines has ever had. You wrote a poem when you were eight years old. I was
eight years old at the time, and I was still in adoration of all the toys I could get my tiny
hands on. I'm still puzzled about how the world really works. I'm still puzzled as to
why the sun and moon seem to follow me wherever I go. I'm still unaware to the things
that aren't my fault. Still a helpless, innocent child. But you were already writing about
language and freedom. You even compared them to birds flying through the sky. You
also wrote a play, which, expectedly, was purchased by a governadorcillio. You've
always been patriotic and I'm amazed.
After studying your life in school, I discovered that you were an author, poet,
ophthalmologist, and journalist. You participated in painting, sculpture, and a variety
of sports. You were active. Some may have questioned your abilities, but you never let
them bother you. And in the end, you graduated with flying colors. You graduated
with distinction. You have been called as genius! Dr. Jose Rizal, you were the hope of
the Filipinos during your era. You managed to bring about the changes in our country
through your intelligence and patriotism. I'd like to think that your choice to fight for
our country's freedom illustrates the humble passion of patriotism that exists in every
Filipino's heart, despite of who or what we are. The choice to act in response to
whatever problems in society we face is the thin line that separates heroes from the rest.
Historians studied your name. You did this and that, you were both here and there.
You will always be more than that. In my life right now, you are one of my inspirations.
I'm sure you were aware of this prior to your execution, but you did what you
thought was right. Send us your best wishes for the courage we'll need to face this new
challenges in this generation, wherever you are. Because of your sacrifices, the
Philippines is what it is today. Though we are currently in a state of chaos, the freedom
and rights we have are irreplaceable. Life is short. But we can give it significance, and
you taught us that. I'm sure some people tried to surpass your brilliant mind into an
unnecessary, but they couldn't and didn't because your mind has always been a peak.
We will assure you that the freedom for which you fought and struggled will never be
lost. May you keep an eye on us, give us courage, and guide us on our paths. You stand
as the history of the Philippines. A beloved hero throughout ages. Thanks to you, we
Filipinos will live our lives to the fullest.

Very Sincerely yours,

Chloe T. Cataluna, BSA 2
