Organizational Structure:
An organizational structure is a framework that specifies how certain tasks are to be carried out
in order to meet the objectives of an organization. Rules, roles, and obligations may be a part of
these activities. How information moves between firm levels is also governed by the
organizational structure. For instance, in a centralized structure, decisions are made from the top
down, whereas in a decentralized structure, decision-making authority is shared among several
organizational levels. Organizational structures enable businesses to maintain efficiency and
focus.

Types of Organizational Structures-

1. Hierarchical structure
2. Functional structure
3. Matrix structure
4. Flat structure
5. Divisional structure
6. Network structure
7. Line structure
8. Team-based structure
9. Circular structure
10. Process-based structure
1. Hierarchical structure –

In this structure, a supervisor is given to each group of employees. Employees can be

categorized according to their job title or function, location, or the kind of goods or
services they offer. Because there are numerous levels of authority, with the greatest level
of leadership at the top, their immediate subordinates below them, and so on, this
structure is frequently pictured as a pyramid.

2. Functional structure –

In this structure, an organization is divided into groups according to tasks,

responsibilities, or expertise. For instance, a company might have divisions for
marketing, finance, and sales, each of which is controlled by a manager who also has a
supervisor who is responsible for various departments. A functional organization might
be advantageous since departments can feel confident that their staff members have the
knowledge and experience necessary to support their objectives.

3. Matrix structure –

Employees in the matrix organizational structure are grouped together and report to
multiple managers in a grid-like arrangement. This frequently comprises a functional
manager who monitors projects and their development as well as a product manager who
is in charge of the business's product strategy and success. Large, international
organizations frequently employ the matrix structure, which encourages the sharing of
knowledge and skills between divisions to achieve objectives.

4. Flat structure –

In this structure, the majority of middle management levels are eliminated under a flat
organizational structure, leaving nothing between staff members and high management.
Without customary hierarchical pressures or oversight, employees are given more
responsibility and decision-making authority and are frequently more productive. Small
businesses and early-stage start-ups are more likely to choose this type of structure
because they frequently have fewer staff and projects to manage.

5. Divisional structure –

In a divisional structure, Organizations are divided into divisions based on certain goods,
services, or regions. Due to this, huge corporations that operate across large geographic
areas or that own various, smaller corporations frequently employ this structure. There
are executive leadership, divisions, and resources exclusive to each division.

6. Network structure –
In a network structure, managers at an organization will handle interactions with both
internal and external parties to deliver their goods or services. This organizational
structure prioritizes relationships and open communication above hierarchy.

7. Line structure –

In a line structure, there are no specialized or supportive services and authority within the
company is distributed from top to bottom. The organization is often broken up into
departments, each of which has a manager in charge of the workforce under the direction
and control of the general manager. To serve the main objective of the organization, the
departments operate independently.

8. Team-based structure –

In a team-based organizational structure, Employees are organized into skill-based teams,

where they all work together to complete certain tasks. This type of flexible organization
frequently enables staff members to switch between teams as they finish projects. This
organizational structure emphasizes staff cooperation and problem-solving.

9. Circular structure –

In a circular organizational structure, the inner rings of a circle represent higher-level

employees, while the outer rings represent lower-level employees. Leaders, who stand in
the center of the organization, give directives externally rather than down the chain of
command.

10. Process-based structure –

In an organization with a process-based structure, the tasks that workers complete and
how they interact with one another are centered around the organization's processes. This
structure's contour runs from left to right rather than from top to bottom.
